You playing Single Player, or Multi the most ?

I haven't had any experience with Battlefield 1942. It's more of multiplayer game. No thanks. Call of Duty has one of the best single-player experiences you will ever play, in my opinion. Three different campaigns. The first one has you playing as the Americans, parachuting with the 101st Airborne into Normandy. After that you capture Ste. Mere Eglise from the Germans and hold it against them. Then later in the campaign you get to go on a rescue mission to save two British officers. The second campaign has you playing as the British. Their first two missions are my favorite in the whole game. You have to capture a bridge from the Germans, then you have to defend it against an assault of German infantry and Panzer tanks. You get to use the huge Flak '88. The rest of the British campaign is rather, bland. Then you get to move on to the Russian campaign. You start out with NO weapon and are about to storm Stalingrad. This is a very memorable mission, I love it. It's hard though. What's also cool about this game is when a mortar goes off next to you, you suffer from shell shock. Your vision goes all blurry and the sound is muffled. It's very intense. The weapons are actually, pretty realistic to the time. From the American Thompson Submachine gun, to the British sten and the German MP40, the weapons are fairly accurate. The graphics are decent, considering the game uses the VERY aging Quake III engine, it works really well. It's very gritty. I'm just scratching the surface. You'd have to play the whole game through. It's an experience.

If you're looking for a good multiplayer game, you can always download Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Afterall, it is free.

mee is bang-on about Call of Duty; it's the nearest you're going to get to WW2 without a time machine. It's awesome. The Pegasus Bridge mission he refers to is my favourite too (Hold..until relieved..) and of course was quite real. The Stalingrad campaigns are also a major highlight, you'll get sick of the sight of Pavlov's House (i hid in a toilet upstairs until everybody else was dead) and don't forget to shoot the NKVD whenever you have a chance

@Taw, yeah I played CoD too, and Pegasus bridge was certainly a mission to be remembered, so was the Stalingrad mission.

But my favorite mission (Spoiler Alert to those who didn't play the game fully through) was the last, the rush to Reichstag, and planting the red flag on the top of it, the final rush gave me goosebumps.

N.B: I have been to the reichstag myself, a little over three and a half years ago, and stood on the very probable spot they hoisted the red flag onto the building, then 55 and a half years, that was back in 2000, with school.

Edit: Battlefield 1942 and expansions are nice, when you like to play online and stuff, the doesn't really have a single player experience.

I have to say that COD was outstanding, and piddled on any other wargame i have played. However, unfort, i don't find it AS good as MOHAA when playing online. Don't know why, but MOHAA (for me) outstrips it in the multiplayer mode..

*edit* - i loved the music that COD played as well - really good stuff, and the red flag on the building - that was excellent to - gave you a rush of "I have done it!!" kinda thing - knew the end and success was close

you may be interested to know that there are some excellent WW2 mods for Flashpoint, and a rather spiffing WW1 mod for CoD.

(I dislike BF1942 rather a lot, it's unrealistic and unconvincing and reminds me of Keystone Cops; however there are superb mods for it that brings it right up to date, and imho vastly improve the game)

unf I'm only playing the demo for Soldiers, as the spawns are getting it me for me b'day soon.

H&D2 is rock solid; try playing CoD on veteran - that's the default difficulty for H&D2. One shot, one kill, no health packs.

Call of Duty, in my book, is the best WWII game ever made. It emphasises on the fact that wars aren't fought by lone super-soilders. Huh. Who knew? The AI in CoD is amazing, your squadmates save your ass as frequently as you save thiers. The multiplayer isn't half bad either, but SP is where CoD really shines. I bought it simply because it allows you to go through 3 SP campaignes: American, British, and Russian. The only flaw in Call of Duty: It's too damn short! But the upcoming expansion, United Offensive, should fix that.

Yep, i really enjoyed playing out the war in three different scenes - english, russian and american. I too am eagerly awaiting that, and there is a follow up i think too

There is? All I know is that there are 2 expansions on the way: Finest hour, for the consoles, and United Offensive, for the PC.

@Chips: It's an expansion pack called, "United Offensive." I'll be picking it up of course, when it comes out.

I have never played CoD, talked to a friend about it and he said its like "battlefield with no vehicles" so I figured I would just buy BF1942. Honestly I think it was a pretty good choice, rather than being realistic it has more of a focus on being just fun. It has its frustrating moments, as with most multiplayer FPS, some maps (emphasis on the word "some" have things like problems where one side gains the advantage then can ruthlessly bomb any vehicle the other side even attempts to enter. In any case, Battlefield is really cheap, for 30 bucks i think you can get the anthology and it has all the battlefield games in one little package. The variety of missions is pretty cool too, it defnitely has some very memorable maps (my personal favorite is Coral Sea, no land battling, 2 carriers facing off with lots of airplanes) . In any case, I personally think you should choose on your own, their both apparently extremely good games. I cant comment on COD though since I havent played (and probably wont) because im not much of a single player person myself, not to say i dont love a good story but playing alone is pretty boring I believe. The only games I have ever strictly played and got addicted to that were mostly single player was KOTOR, GTA Series, and Medal of Honor.

Only got into RTCW a little. One day I will replace the disk, got a really bad scratch. Other than that, I never got into WWII games too much, though they don't count that much, a sub battle or two. Like the lay outs of the U-boats in those games.

does no-one play SSi games but me?
