Doom 3 Goes Gold

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Doom 3 Goes Gold

I was hoping that someone else would post this, but I guess it falls to me again *sigh*. Well, for anyone who is eagerly awaiting Doom 3 (not me; too much hype), ID have announced that the game has "gone gold", and will be released to suppliers on August 3rd. It is believed that the game will be available on August 5th. I can barely contain my excitement. Yay.

The original Doom wasa alright but Doom 2 was the groundbreaker in the series. I just hope it keeps on getting better.

It's mor e stea;thy less ammo and a retelling of Doom 1

unlike almost all of the rest of the world's population, i preferred original Doom to Doom2 - in fact i didn't like Doom2 at all. Doom3 hardly has me wetting my knicks with desire either. Guess now I'm all growed up, shooting monsters doesn't have the appeal it once did. I prob won't be shelling out me cash for this one, unlike Soldiers, Rome:Total War, Flashpoint 2, and the CoD expansion.

iD superceded Doom with the Quake franchise, and I think there's more than a shade of "let's see what old titles we can rework to make some cash quick" about it. What exactly is going to be new about it? oh no, not the stunning graphics! <zzzzzzzzz> big deal, you can see the details on the teeth (if you spend £250 on a top end Raddy)

No matter what gets done with Doom3, it will not overtake HL as king of shooters, and when HL2 finally comes out, the door will shut on Doom3.

(not bashing Doom - I loved the original and played it to death for years, and modded it, and played it MP on bulletin boards back in DOS days, and built me first 486DX just to play Doom on)

I was raised on Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Those are the two reasons I love first-person shooters. I want Doom 3 because it's actually not a sequel. It's actually a retelling of the original story, with better graphics and sound. I have been and always be a big fan of Doom. @Taw: The doors will not shut on Doom 3 because of Half-Life 2. Both are fantastic looking games and they both look fun. I will certainly own both when HL2 comes out. I think Doom has as big a following as Half-Life does, if not bigger. Besides, the development of Doom 3 hasn't been twisted around in a web of deceit like Half-Life 2. Doom 3 was delayed ONCE. After it was delayed, ID said that it would be done, "when it's done." Valve, on the other hand, missed it's original September 30 release date. They pushed it back to December, when Doom 3 was SUPPOSED to be released, but they delayed HL2 again. Then they announce HL2 for April, but were supposedly hit by an anonymous "hacker", and had their source code stolen. Delayed again. It just makes you wonder how far along on Half-Life 2 they actually are. See, now that Doom 3's gone gold. Valve has got some catching up to do. They're not releasing the game for another month and a half to two months. Doom 3's going to steal the spotlight out from under Half-Life 2. But this is how I see the situation. I don't know how anyone else sees it.

I too, am looking forward to HL2, although with all the hype it has been a close thing.

The minimum specs for Doom 3 have been released. Just thought that I should bring it to your attention .

Yeah, well. I've got Painkiller, which has the exact same system requirements, and I can run that game just fine. I'm running that on this:
AMD Duron 1.3ghz
256 megs SDRAM PC133
ATI Radeon 9200SE
60 gig harddrive
Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy Gamer

So, I don't think I'll have a problem with Doom 3. Things still look really good on medium detail. Besides I won't be running it at all those high resolutions, either. 640*480 is just fine with me.
