as I said many a Time before on these kinds of celebrations: mehh.

All the Festivities of today ain't even because of the thought behind it, it's all commercialisation, and thats all there is to it nowadays, there was a time when people on the 4th of July were saying, "Thank god another year of freedom" (please note that my opinions on the 4th of July are quite onesided, Namely on the British side, but not to turn this into a political spamfest, I will subdue my opinions, all for the good of this thread) instead of Happy independance day and giving eachother memmorabilia on some day (mostly valantines day gifts repainted and retexted for the occassion).
to spare this able mans opinion, please note that the same text goes for:

Valentimes day
Mothers Day
Fathers Day
and-so-on day.

Me and my dad went out and bought $350 worth of fireworks, we set them all off last night. it took us until 12:00 to finish.

Post Mon Jul 05, 2004 11:13 pm

That's a great way to seriously injure yourself *shakes head*. That's why using fireworks is illegal in Aus. (except for professionals).

When you have a national anthem with lyrics that expound upon the sky lit up with explosive detonations, it is a little hard to avoid fireworks ... legal or otherwise.

If the Chinese are able to celebrate New Years and other festive occasions with fireworks to what appears to be no detrimental effects to their millenia old culture, a little snap crackle bang and pop on the 4th of July should have a salutary effect.....

<Edit>

On the other, er, hand , Esqy... you have a point

It beats experiance. Had a lady finger, half as big a bang as a firecracker, with a hairy fuse, go off in my fingers. Hurt for a week. Still, its fun shooting them off.

Three days after the event and I've finally recovered a bit from the outlaw overdose.

Gotta say that when it comes to the 4th of July, you would not know that fireworks are illegal in New York State.

I ate too much grilled food, burgers, dogs, sausages, even chicken. I drank too much beer. I ate too many chips (crisps) with salsa or dip and too much ice cream cake.

Wifey, munchkin and I waddled home on Monday and it took me the past two days to restore order to my gastrointestinal system. *belch*
