What next? (yes, its another tech question)

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

What next? (yes, its another tech question)

I was thinking of going for an upgrade but im not entirely sure on what to upgrade, I am almost certainly going to upgrade the video card (nice and old ) but what else do you think i should?

I have:

ECS K7S5A Motherboard (Integrated AC97 sound)

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (1.47GHz)

256MB DDR (PC2100 i think)

GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB ()

1 10GB and 1 40GB hard drive

FLATRON L1510S 15" monitor

Generic Keyboard

Microsoft Optical Mouse

And thats about it...

How much money are willing to spend? The memory should be next. I'd go for no less than 512 megs of DDR. You're processor's not much faster than what I have, so that would be next. Bare minimum for a monitor has to be 17 inch. No less. I think you're fine on hard disk space. But I could be wrong.

Primary

More RAM

Alternative Secondary Option

If your HDD is not one of the onboard hardware cached variety, I suggest that you upgrade to one of those. Any make you can afford that has an on board hardware cache of 8mb will significantly improve your PC's performance. You don't have to get the 10,000 rpm SATA monsters. A regular ATA HDD from WD, Seagate, Hitachi or Maxtor will do, whatever is cheapest for you.

I had to replace my non-cached 7200 rpm ATA HDD with one that has a 8mb cache and the performance difference was very pleasantly surprising.

I'd say lots more RAM and a bigger monitor - size matters

I just figured pSYCHO was used to squinting.

<edit>

A bigger monitor, moving up to 17" probably will cost you more than a
new 80gig HDD.

Meh, it's all good. I'd wait before upgrading; grab a whole new system early next year. Prices will be very attractive by then (and around Christmas).
