A possible resolution to the fact that I cant update my vide

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

A possible resolution to the fact that I cant update my vide

Ok well I recently bought Painkiller, and it didnt work, but I called tech support. And there was this chick named "Melissa" who asked me what my driver version was, after realizing that they werent up to date. I told her about those problems I had updating drivers (namely, I updated twice and both times got ****ed up so bad i had to reinstall windows) but, she did make a suggestion which was to update my motherboard and bios drivers. And that was the one thing nobody ever (not as microsoft or nvidia) bothered to mention as resolution to the un-updateable video card problem. Maybe its a resolution? what do you guys think, and besides I have no idea where to get motherboard or bios drivers (**** I didnt know it even had the damn thing)

Sometimes your BIOS does need to be updated to afford you with proper compatability with updated video and sound card drivers.

So yeah, it is possible.

Note: This post is intended to be placed ahead of Taw's reply as he is giving you the bottom line to what you need to do to move on to next steps whereas I'm just
filling in the empty spaces to get you there.

<Edit>

It generally is good practice to update your BIOS to the latest version recommended for your specific setup.

I think Taw means what kind of motherboard and BIOS you're using.
I always found updating the BIOS a bit tricky, so I just bought a newer motherboard
I believe you need VIA 4in1 drivers.

Anyway, I'll leave this to the pros.

no Wiz I didnt expect he'd be able to give me that, just the model number off the case then i can track it back for him.

check in later Com I'll have a linky and some instructions for you. Actually you might not be able to flash the bios on this, it may be locked, but I'll check, gotta go to work now

If you wouldn't mind a bit of feed back, use the windows update to update your drivers. It will have those that ar matched to your version of windows and create less problems. It workd for the nivida drivers on mine nicely and even for an older computer with ME on it.

Just because my Me rig is dead doesn't mean that it was because of Me. Because it wasn't Me, it was the D-hell that was at fault.

go to your own dam' thread and moan, "Indy," this is for real work

ok Com this is the support site, you didn't say which OS you have so ffs choose the right one.

watch it with the BIOs cos thats the ROM update, myself I don't think you should frig about withn the BIOs in any way, this is almost certainly a video driver issue. Now it's my understanding that this Presario 5003 range has onboard graphics so check your documentation then use Compaq's own driver from that link, ok? that's safest unless you know exactly which graphic chipset it is and can d'l it off the manuf, which is prob a bit ambitious for you at the mo. Let's just keep things nice and simple.

sorry for not getting back sooner, had a busy day.

No problem taw I wasnt able to check in for a while myself. In any case its no longer under warranty so compaq refuses it exists, I called Nvidia aswell and they, being the lazy bastards they are keep telling me its a window problem (though I know its not because I have called them after a clean reinstall and still had problems) So Ill see what I can do about the Bios and mobo update and if that doesnt work I can always reinstall again right?
