X2 or Battlecruiser Millenium?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

X2 or Battlecruiser Millenium?

I need your help.

I've got a gift card to a computer store, and the only games that are currently appealing to me are these two games. What are your impressions/experiences with either or both of these, and do any recommendations go along with it? Thanks!

Never Played any of those sorry, but did once played Battlecruiser, din't do well i suppose, or maybe i just cant understand the complexity of handling a battlecruiser. though i really like the idea of commanding a huge ship, just hope the UI gives great help to me, but it wasn't. But that was my experience with BC2000. Who knows.

argh i'm never gonna get paid, Goodbye a million credits

X2 is a good game, its very different from FL - which is something people seem to have a hard time trying to grasp. Ergo it also attracts alot of "hatred" in comparison to FL. However, IF you have the time, and IF you like investing ALOT of time into characters and gameplay, its open endedness is very nice - stacked with features. However, IF your expecting a mere FL2 kinda thing - you will sadly be disappointed and angry. The fighting system is COMPLETELY different - which is the main reason people don't like it - for some reason they thought it was going to be like FL - well, its not.
The trading is different - but MUCH better - as is the "experience" of flying in space too.

X2 is a great space sim on its own, you just have to stop trying to comparing it to FL -cause they are COMPLETELY and UTTERLY different. Having said that - you may be disappointed that their voices actors for the storyline are WAY below the standard that FL has. So are the "cutscenes" too - and it is heavy on your graphics card, so ensure you have a decent one. To be honest, that is where you can draw comparisons with FL. You would have thought they could have done better on the acting bits - cause the emotion/expression of the voices is terrible.....................really makes you realise that FL did have some very very good voice actors working on it.

DO NOT TOUCH BATTLECRUISER OR YOU WILL BE BROKEN

Please... and don't mention... HIS name...

X2 is so-so, I suggest an investment into Thief 2

X2 is what freelancer promised to be, a truly open ended universe with heaps of options. However the vast gulf that seperates that universe from the way the game presents it is what turns most people off. Its easy to be turned off within the first few hourse and hard to get used to and you really start to appreciate the logical simplicity and sleekness of freelancer, however the experiances are more rewarding, especially the capital ship battles.

I still wish that I had been able to get into X2. It had so much promise *sigh.

Esqualix - it took me several days to really get anywhere with it..........and i left the storyline almost immediately. Needless to say that due to the mod, i haven't yet had the chance to really play it again yet.......well - due to the mod and MOHAA/ COD being truthful

X2 is a wonderful game if you give it time. it's not an instant action game so comparisons with FL are pointless. The combat is difficult but then really if it's combat you want, it's not for you. The economy is wonderful though, space is rich and full of stuff, and the scaling is wonderful, huge ships and bases that dwarf you, even more than Freespace did. the X2 experience is more like Eve, it's cerebral rather than visceral, and it is a very beautiful game. But it's not easy and the story is a bit contrived and largely irrelevant, really.

(FL's a lot more fun and easier to play, and it's got tons of groovy mods - there is no comparison between the two. FL fans who slag off X2 without even trying it are no better than X2 fans who slag off FL, ffs)

however, Battlecruiser Millenium? not only is it basically fonkenhausen to the core, it has "that man" controlling it like some 3rd world dictator. And don't say his name (more than 3 times) Honestly don't get BcM, you will regret it. BC3K was so bad that Der Fuhrer had to resort to getting Jo Guest to strip off to advertsie the p.o.s.

is there a mod for x2 like the no story mod for fl?

Post Wed Jun 23, 2004 3:03 am

There are some mods for X2 being made, but they seem to have "official" help, or certainly coordination. Giskard over at Respawn wanted to mod it, but they are already making mods featuring his ideas (something to do with pirates - i forget). He now beta tests for it instead - it all sounds good, and it sounds like its MORE moddable than FL, as they can write new scripts rather than rehash existing ones (which is what encounters in FL is).

The ownership of stations and more is the bit i still have yet to achieve - but you cannot really play for just 30mins a day like some games........you need to dedicate several hours each time - which is why i haven't really gotten too far with it. However, i have nothing bad to say about it whatsoever, i love it

i think i'll wait for elite 4

whilst on the subject, i'm also thinking about getting a new game too, having just finished hw 2.

i'm seriously anti - FPS. its not healthy for me. (literally - i puke). i'm looking for a game genre i haven't tried yet. i've already been through space sims, strategy modern, middle aged, ancient and bla.

looking for game played offline that is. and reasonably new as they don't sell those that had a media hype like FL and died out (died out in this part of the globe)

gone through some air sim's too, not many but not intending to go further.

what's battlecruiser millenium meant to be? you command a battlecruiser.. defined as the huge ship on sea, below atmosphere or a battlecruiser in space?

i'm thinking about a game commanding a huge vessel. where both strategy and character comes into play. then again i'm open to suggestions.

sorry for teh hijack.

Interest in X2 never got too far and Battle died right after starting it. At least the gold edition.
