Whats the thing your most afraid of?

Spiders freak me out. I've gotten better, now it's only big ones that bug me. I can smash those tiny ones with my finger, and flick the medium sized ones, but for the big ones, I need a boot or poison. I know it's irrational, because, at least where I live, the only poisonous spiders are black widows, brown recluse and hobo spiders, and they're not going out of their way to bite people. I know that most spiders in my house aren't capable of harming me, but I don't like them anyway. It's wierd because I'm not afraid of insects, and I don't freak out when they get on me. But it's a whole different thing with spiders.

Another thing I'm afraid of is heights, but only when I don't have anything to hold onto. My wife's uncle has this giant see-saw on his spread. I can't ride it because there's nothing to hang on to. If it had a solid handle I would probably like it. I love roller coasters because most of the time you're tightly held in your seat.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

What scares me? Bad game-to-movie translations. Seriously though, the one thing I am afraid of the most is to die alone. I'm not afraid of dying, per se, it happens to everyone, but I don't want to die alone. It seems kind of silly, but it would make my passing into the next world easier if there was someone by my side when I do cross over.

In the late 19th Century, when medicine was still sort of, er, hit or miss, there was a thriving burial accessories industry that was devoted to providing the recently interred a means of signaling to the outside world that the "rumors of {their} demise were greatly exagerrated."

Often a little steeple like thing was to be installed over the grave with a bell in the steeple which could be rung by a cable that fed through a pipe in the ground, through your coffin lid and by your hand so that you could tug the cable and rig the bell.

There was a huge variety in the kinds of "alarm" devices that would be triggered by these things.

I'm looking for the websites for examples without any luck atm. Anyone else know where to find them?

Actually now that you guys mention it, anything debilitating like MS or motor neuron disease would probably be my worst fear. Actually anything that effects my motor functions really frightens me, I don't think I would cope all that well.

Losing one's mental capacities is nothing - you wouldn't be able to realized it anyway after it occurs

I can't think of any real stuff I could be absolutely horrified with, but speaking of hypothetical happenings, the most horrible thing would be if sth happend to my family. Sth happening to myself is not that scary.

@Zlo... that's what so scary about Alzheimers. For at least the first half of the disease you get to cognitively witness the disintegration of your own mind.
