Action RPG or In-Depth RPG

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Action RPG or In-Depth RPG

I was just deliberating this question, in all your gaming experience, all the RPGs you've ever played (people who havent played any excluded) what do you like more? Action RPG, where you grab a weapon or spell and destroy massive swathes of monsters, or one of those RPG's like fallout, where combat is only a fraction of the game, and the rest is based more on npc interaction, questing uncovering the story and whatnot. Personally, im more in favor of action-rpg's, simply because they are more exciting to play, things like huge armies of demons that you saw in half in a few passes always gets to me (ala Diablo II). But then there are games like Arcanum and Neverwinter Nights which are also fun, but I still prefer the action oriented games. Strangely enough, there has never been a marriage of the two, a in-depth, story based rpg, with blazing fast combat, its quite strange. It seems as if though pc game development is always stuck on 2 extremes, action/roleplaying or arcade/simulation. Anyhow, whats your favorite type of RPG?

I prefer in-depth RPGs. I like a good story, especially when it's non-linear.

People have it all wrong these days, instead of discriminating and hating others for being black or ugly, we should practise fairness and hate every living thing equally.

Plots the way to go, but a mixture of the two is best.

I like two types. Final fantasy style is the best, due to a good story line, But Morrowwind is good due to open storyline where you go any place and finish the story when ever you want.

Anywho I prefer... VERY in depth RPGs, hell my faveourite game is Torment. Torment I loved because it IS the character not the combat that's important. You can dodge hundreds of fights and guess what... you get MORE EXP it's my dream lol.

Although Action is fun every so often.

My favorite in-depth RPG has to be Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magic Obscura, made by the same guys that made the fallout series. Its really great, its the same way its very easy to dodge many of the fights in the game by talking or money etc. I used to LOVE playing a Rogue, it had a day-night cycle in the game, so what I would love doing is going into towns, then when it was about 1-2 am when everyone goes to sleep (yes they really do have beds they actually lay down in ), lockpicking open windows, climbing through, opening all the merchants chest's (where the merchant keeps his earning and ALL the items he had in his store when its open during the day) and robbing them blind, of everything, from gold to all the items he would generally sell in his store . I would even go so far as to pickpocket any worthwhile items from him while hes sleeping, he would go broke and I would just take everything to another town and sell it. I used to love the way it at least gave you that choice . Or you could be a hero of the town by doing good deeds, or kill everyone in it and claim it as your own .

@Com, I think I remember that game. It was a lot of fun. But you had to spend too much on food.
