Obviously, I wasn't an adult at the time. Had I been, I don't think I would have ventured into the dunes in the first place ... too hot, too uncomfortable, not enough beverage, etc., etc.
I was nine or ten, I think. You don't think of consequences very carefully when you're that age. AND it was fun at the time. The snakes generally would flee. Sidewinders have a very unique way of moving, hence their name. And they are pretty fast.
I think a snake turned on me only once or twice but I was able to jump out of the way. Yeah. I was pretty stupid back then.

Actually my closest call was when I was about 13, went surfing with me brother. We casually waiting for a set to come through and all these people were dancing up and down on the cliff, didn't quite know what they were on about but we paddled in anyway. We went up to the top of the cliff and saw the shadow of a 12-foot great white that had come in to feed. Pharking monster and cruising around just where we were, im sure we would've made a tasty snack too. They're definately one thing that scare the hell out of me, bloody evil looking things.
f*** f*** f*** omfg a great white, now thats not a phobia, thats just terrifying! like its not some insignificant thing you can choose to ignore, cos its bigger than you mand can eat you!
I did a couple of exercises/patrol tours in the Indian Ocean and q a few of the lads went swimming in the warm shark-infested waters - not me.
..there is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro..

Why are sharks such a source of fascination lately? On Australian TV over the last year, we have had documentary after dcumentary, program after program all dealing with sharks. You'd have thought that they'd just been discovered by some marine biologist *shakes head*.
What are you looking at me like that for? I'm still on topic (technically),

In the US, beachs have there share from time to time. When your in thier turf and make the noise of a wounded fish, they are naturally going to bother you. A very long lady. 13 I think, was surfing not all to long ago, lost an arm to a shark along with a chunk of her surf board. She is now back to surfing in compatitions. Go figure.
a nice little spider
