URGENT tech help needed!!!

Ok, i had a sort-of emotional breakdown yesterday, that aside, in short, i had to give Administrator Access to my 21-year old up-herself sister.
ok, long story short, she installed some whole bunch of stuff, and i dont know what the hell she did, so, in short, here are some of the that look out of place:
Kazaa
Peer points manager
180 search assistant
open AL refrence
P2P networking
My search bar
MSXML 4.0 parser.

What i need to know is URGENT, are ANY of these programs constituted spyware carriers, and which ones?? I am NOT going to stand getting blamed for this, if ANY of these programs constitutes spyware, im reverting to my old settings..

Kazaa
Peer points manager
180 search assistant
open AL refrence
P2P networking
My search bar
MSXML 4.0 parser.

I definatly know that Kazaa installs with lots of spyware + adware, so expect a VERY laggy internet connection until you get it off, so use adaware + spybot to get all the spyware off. P2P programs usually install with spyware, so uninstall it and use spybot (Or Adaware) to eliminate the spyware and Adaware. I don't know about the others ....... and if worst comes to worst, format the dive and rebuild it ......

And yes Arania, It is YOUR fault for letting her gain access to administrator system. Change the password, and DO NOT TELL HER IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!!

Ask Taw and Esq about the other programs, they look suspicious to me, but I don't know about them ..... wait for the experts to arrive .....

Eh? Is that all? It doesn't sound that urgent to me . Besides, Taw won't help; he leaves worm and spyware removal to his loyal lackey Esquilaxiov . Well, let's see here;
Kazaa is full of spyware (as you should know by now).
Peer points manager is probably part of Kazaa an probably manages downloads.
180 ... is a service that sends targeted pop-up ads as I recall.
Open AL could be open audio.
P2P Networking could be a part of Kazaa, but it could also be anything.
My Search Bar is spyware I think, and was probably bundled with Kazaa.
The XML parser is fine. It is installed by some MS programs sych as "Halo".
You should know better than to allow family members to have access to your PC!

Time to get tough with your parents. Tell them that when someone like her, who has no idea about internet threats and worse, is granted access to do whatever they like, they might as well kiss the computer goodbye due to trojans, viruses, and spyware - cause you will be riddled with the stuff. Really over dramatise it though - point out that if she cannot be bothered to learn, understand, and care about what she installs/uses, then she should have NO right to use the software. Tell them that Kazzaa users are being targeted for downloading music, and sued or something - really lay it on (they might ban her from using that stuff intsead ), point out that just cause someone doesn't know how to use a gun, that you wouldn't then let them do whatever they want with the gun would ya? Like i said - REALLY ham it up, make it sound like the comp nearly died - lie a bit as well. That way she might get restricted, or maybe you can be allowed to stop her downloading/installing stuff without your say so

Hmm, interesting idea. Arania, you could also print out some of the more "colourful" articles about the RIAA suing people for downloading music. THAT will make an impact on your parents .

What I know about these matters, since I have just deleted the Latest Version of Kazaa a few months ago (and being very happy about that), is that Both Peer Points Manager and P2P Networking are Part of aforementioned program.

-180 solutions search assistant is Spyware as I know a m8 of mine had that program.
-Mysearch Bar IIRC is adware thats packed with MsgPlus for MSN.
-MSXML 4.0 is something I know nothing about, But Komrad Esky saying that its allright would constitute its right to be there.

Ohh, and before I forget, when I used Kazaa, there was another little surprise that D/l'ed itself onto my computer: Perfectnav, This is basicly a search program that acts every time you type the wrong URL or when there is a little glitch in the URL, its Spyware, and if I am not mistaken it has installed itself onto your main drive (Default is the C:\ Drive), I would search for it if I were you, its not only Spyware, it's also Bloody annoying. Here are the removal instructions.
Just in case its loaded onto your Hdd. WARNING: Part of the Removal instructions tell you that you have to Edit the Registry, As per Tawakalna's advice I suggest you find someone very able with the Registry rather then Do it yourself, its extremely Dangerous, Don't say I didn't warn you about it!!
Also, if things go Awry, I accept no responsibility for it.

the only things on that list of crap that AREN'T spyware riddles are

open AL refrence
MSXML 4.0 parser.

and you don't need either of them anyway. Tell your sister to go and trash her own computer.

Is she a fittie? I'll let her have a pc she can trash to her hearts content...

what did you have to let her have full-rights access anyway? Haven't I pointed out over and over again that women and computers do not mix? (sorry sw, mal) esp when they're being demanding and impatient, they don't give a dam about what damage they do as long as they get to Ebuy, Big Brother, ringtones or celebrity mp3's & screensavers. You should have kept that ban on and downright refused.

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 1:07 am

too old for what?
just 'cos I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't look at the menu.

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 1:17 am

And where is Mrs. Taw on the menu ?

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 7:18 am

ya, on the reg. the only reason why i havent gotten spybot or adaware is because it wants to mess with my reg and delet my anti viruse.

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 7:24 am

sorry hit the butten to soon.///but ya, i dont mess with the spyware and adaware crap because 1. its intergrated somehow into my anti viruse 2. i dont know anything about the reg. 3. i cant find an adaware or spyware removle tool that works on my laptop.

also could anyone help me on my spyware or adware problem while your all at it? but like i said, i cant get the stuff to work and not want to delet my ani viruse

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 8:39 am

thats why i only let my sister and mom use the guest account on my system no internet, no e-mail, and no installing of squat
my search bar is a spyware/trojen downloader get rid of it adaware will flag it so will some a-v scanners, if adaware dosn't flag it update the reference file or run spybot search and destroy

Post Fri Jun 04, 2004 8:58 am

so just uncheck my anti viruse and hit proced, and worry about messing up my reg????

@Warrior,

I've installed both Spybot D&D and Adaware and I have to admit that I've never been prompted to delete my antivirus program.

Something sounds a little off on what you are describing. As far as installations go, your registry is changed with each software installation you make.
