Interplay''s near-demise has been confirmed

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Interplay''s near-demise has been confirmed

I am not certain as to the authenticity of this post, but it states that Interplay may be shutting down. I guess that we'll have to wait and see. Interestingly, the website was down when I tried to access it (probably just a glitch with the new proxy - I hope).

I don't believe a word of it, although that's probably because I'm naturally suspicious. Still though, I think he's full of it.

I am just a worthless liar,
I am just an imbecile,
I will only complicate you,
Trust in me and fall as well.

I don't believe it either Fishy, but then I'm also more paranoid than you are .

Well, it would appear that our earlier worries have been justified. According to this article, Interplay was closed down by Californian labour invesitgators because they "were without workers’ compensation insurance and had not paid employees". Does this mean the end of Interplay? I guess that we'll have to wait and see.

Sounds like they have just enough money to settle accounts and then close. The dirt is already on the grave. I loved freespace....

Don't worry Final. All is not lost - yet. We'll have to see how this plays out.

Interplays problems have been going on for a while. see below

Interplay Faces Nasdaq Delisting

Video game maker Interplay, of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale fame, has announced that the company has received notice on August 14, 2002 that its stock stands poised to be delisted on August 22, 2002, after an earlier grace period. The news came a day after Interplay reported Q2 2002 results, most notably net income of $20.9 million, or $0.22 per share. An August 13th deadline came and went without Interplay stock reaching a minimum share price of $1. Moreover, the Interplay is ineligible for an additional 180-day grace period for failing to meet the following requirements set forth by Nasdaq's rules, more specifically attaining $5,000,000 in stockholders' equity, $50,000,000 market value of listed securities, or $750,000 net income from continued operations. In the interim, the embattled game maker requested a hearing with a Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Panel to review Nasdaq's decision.

An even older article shows a less than positive outlook.

Interesting. Oh well, I guess that these things happen. I wonder if they'll get out of this with their reputation intact?

Post Tue Jun 08, 2004 8:07 pm

If all does go downhill though there is always a chance that they will sell off the rights to freespace and there other games. At least that way the games themselves will continue through someone. I still think they will find a way to pull through though.

Post Tue Jun 08, 2004 8:11 pm

Hmm, maybe they'll even release some of their older games as freeware, and perhaps even the source code. *Points* Is that a blue moon?

Post Tue Jun 08, 2004 8:23 pm

*confused* i know im the least informed on anything......what is interplay? *ducks*......*hides under desk*......*deploys security system*

*Shakes head* Kids . Interplay is the company that published games such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and many others. They've been quite successful over the years; up until now .

Not to mention the games, Freespace I and II.
