A good gigabyte motherboard

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

dude, you heard of razor prices - do a search for what you want, or browse. they have a database of shops and prices across Australia - it's dirt cheap, cheaper than e-bay! i got a digital camera last week which was only $450 and not $650!!!!!!

Again, it depends upon what you want it for. Gaming (Speed)? Features? Other?

Post Sun May 30, 2004 1:29 am

mainly for gaming, and it just has to have the basics, mainly on board sound, usb etc. on board graphics isnt needed, since i will be getting a radeon 9600XT card for it.

GA-8KNXP, that's about the best P4 Gigabyte board. used it q a few times. can't fault it. Prefer MSi and A-Bit though...

An MSI board all the way....also go with an AMD athlon processer...seems to be more reliable than a P4...maybe it is just me but i run an AMD and it is a really stable setup...and make sure the board you get supplies an 8X agp slot....all the good cards coming out soon are going to be ate up in the 8X agp...

I'm very pleased with my MSi board.

Those "Neo 2" MSI MBs are supposed to be good, especially with their "passive overclocking", but I think I'll go for a ABIT next time I upgrade.

Post Sun May 30, 2004 2:26 pm

i got the Neo2 'cos the supplier hadn't got any Abit IC7s in, but I'm glad I did now

Ah, I thought so. Does the "passive overclocking" feature do much for you in terms of performance?

Post Mon May 31, 2004 4:46 pm

it seems to even out performance (so far) although, being circumspect, I have it on a fairly low setting. It's worked fine so far on demanding games like X2 and C&C:Generals, and Call of Duty runs like a dream. As games get a bit more demanding, I'll start to up the settings a bit and see what gain I get. I'm not convinced it's really even breaking sweat yet. Maybe when push comes to shove, it might be a load of cr*p, I dunno?

..how about getting me off these antibiotics..
