DVD Drive

I have a LG DVD-ROM Drive (DRD8080B ). For some reason, it no longer reads DVDs, but it can read cds. How can I get it back to playing dvds? I've tried to find new drivers, but none work.

You haven't been flashing the firmware have you? Some people have been unable to read DVDs after installing an incorrect (or hacked) BIOS. When did this problem evidence itself?

Re. IM, we have discussed this before. Have you tried the "Search" function?

uh sorry re : IM.

no i haven't done anything with the bios. it just stopped working about six weeks ago, and i've been trying to get it back in order. now it doesn't like reading a cd for about a six minutes (i was playing an audio cd about 20 minutes ago, and then it spat out "error cannot read from drive h:/"

drive h:/ ???!?!? jeez you got loads of drives.. or are they partitioned HDDs

not necessarily

a=floppy
b=another floppy or Zip set as "a" type or not used at all
c=pri hdd
d=sec hdd or cd/dvd
e=may be another cd/dvd
f=same

g, h, etc are usually assigned to card reader devices. 2 hdds, 2 cd devices would give you g and h for card readers.

it's q possible that Windows has incorrectly assigned the drive letters (it happens) and that now some other device is seeing itself as the former cd letter while the cd is now drive h. I even managed to get XP to assign a pri master as drive e!

okay, just buying a new dvd burner to replace it.

floppy : A
HDD : C
CD-RW : G
DVD-ROM : H

Before you do that, try using a cleaning disc for CD-ROMs/DVD Players. Sometimes, they can fix such problems.

You can change the assigment of any removable-media drive in winxp/9x through device manager or disk manager.

Windows will automaticly assign the next drive letter to any device installed.

(lol its funny when you install windows on a new hdd WHILE you have a card reader installed. Your card reader becomes C: and your hdd becomes d, e, or sometimes F! )

hmm, just took out the old drive... it's had it - started making weird noises about 10 minutes ago playing FL - like it was rubbing. neway, just installing the dvd burner.... keep your thumbs crossed for me!

hey the dvd drive in my 2 year laptop cant read cds but it still can read dvds just fine, i didnt even fiddle with it at all.

i am so glad i payed for that extra 4 year warrenty when i bought the thing!!

ahhh, beeyahhdaful. it hums like a bird and it's black - it's my new dvd burner, just finishing the ROTK, which by the way, is a fantastic movie if you are one of the very few unenlightened people who hasn't seen the light or the movie
