army surplus

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

army surplus

I dont suppose any of you could point me in the direction of some places that have surplus army vehicles that i could take photos of? obviously, its only gonna be in the uk

Why ?
Are you a spy ?

Army Surplus stores:

Nottingham

Ripley

Dunno where else - however, I would guess any TA barracks might let you - and the army often have vehicles at exhibitions and stuff. Check out open days for barracks, military museums and stuff. Heck - some dealers have military vehicles for sale as well - so you might find em on the net - just a question of looking. Then you can just go take pics. The army surplus stores generally don't have enough room for you to get any space in order to work with.....but ya never know

id really like to get a couple of photos of tanks, maybe a few of the helicopters, especially the apache

Take pictures of? Most museums unless they're outdoor ones won't allow photography, and the military abhors cameras. Clue to everyone out there. There's nothing that brightens up the day of a severely bored MP like pressing the face of hapless shutterbug into the pavement.

you won't get an Apache because

they're American and we don't have them
none are based in Britain anyway
airshows are the only place you might see one (unless you travel abroad)

yuo need to check out MOD auctions cos all the APC/AFV and other tracked stuff is sold off there.

Why don't you just get on the train and go to Aldershot? You can take all the photos of military kit you want there.

..how I dearly wish I was not here..

Post Mon May 24, 2004 1:48 pm

maybe if there are some nice examples of female kit walking around

Post Mon May 24, 2004 2:44 pm

..then you'll get locked up. Anyway girls look dreadful in all that baggy Army gear, although the female officers can look ok if they make the effort. What do you want to take pictures of the Pongoes for anyway? the Navy's much better.

No, you're both wrong. It's not the Army, Navy, or the Marines. It's the Air Force that you want pictures from.

Yea, what about some Harriers? Now they would make some nice pics.

ff, what's got you so fired up on picture taking latey?

Post Mon May 24, 2004 4:44 pm

Harriers? Oops, wrong country. I keep forgetting you guys are in GB. The question is: Does the U.S. Navy's Blue Angel aerobatic squad go to England...

Come to Orpington ff, and see the Biggin Hill air show, it'll be on soon enough.
I get red arrows, harriers, WW2 bombers and fighters flying over my garden each year. Hell, one year they had a stealth bomber flying around but it wasn't allowed to land. It screwed things up for air control since they couldn't pick him up on the radar!

EDIT: sorry, it's on later this year 18-19 September
There's a "Wings and things" air show in Woodchurch, Ashford on the 1st of August though.

wings and things..lol.. flying pumpkins.

and why do you want to take pictures of harriers for ? get shots of F/A-18 hornets. now they are nice eye candy. tomcats might look good for some but i think they are kinda bulky.
F-16 eagles look good too. they are also kind of big but stil look better than tomcats ^^ but thats my 2 shiny polished cents

but if you seriously want ugly planes, shoot the tank busters.. A-10's i believe..

anyhoo the airforce has all the eye candy, followed by the navy with their juggernauts. land army might have some nice looking ones like a nuke silo..

er.... kimk, it's pretty difficult to get photos of American aircraft in the UK!!
Anyway the A10 warthog's a pretty cool plane, you can just tell it means trouble by looking at it, the machine gun on the nose fires bullets that, with their cartridges, are the size of milk bottles!!
