An interesting article

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Well, I've always thought having "big-breasted bimbos" in games isn't really a problem, due to the fact that, well most games, like racers, many FPS's and strategy games, not to mention many others, don't actually have any.
Most of the games that do, are multiplayer, and the female characters are included for girls. I dislike playing as girls, especially "bimbos", as they make me embarassed on behalf of my gender just looking at them, and I think many men feel the same way. On the other hand, the developers of the game have to include female characters, otherwise they're being sexist. In games such as Quake, there is little or no background to the characters, so it's impossible to make any of the female characters intelligent, the only thing they can make is their appearance, and just as men like playing as big muscular characters (what men think that women percieve to be "the ideal man", they naturally do the same for women, they just assume that a women's picture of "the ideal woman" is the same as a man's, hence the bimbo.

Just my 2 Cents, anyways.

i never liked tomb raider, cos i was having to look at lara all the time, and not the game, as would happen in a 3rd person game if i was controlling a male character, its almost as if the developers intentionally made lara the games focus and not the game itself.

Post Sun May 23, 2004 5:16 am

Only in a few PC games, even in FL there's only about 1 ot 2, but then, Trent walks like a girl anyway.

EDIT- @Taw- yeah but you're... special.

it doesn't bother me playing female characters; in fact if they're hot it's q fun!

..you shut your mouth, how can you say, I go about things the wrong way..

I dont really mind playing guys, i think the only girl chars I have ever played, is Tombrider and Starlancer. I guess its cuss I mostly play space sims that it doesnt matter, as long as I can fly thro space, everything is cool

FL is kinda fair in this respect. Lots of the other ships have female pilots and, although Trent is a male, there is a lot of female representation. There's even a rumor all over the criminal bases of southern sirius saying something to the effect of: "Sure, those Corsair women are nice to look at, but don't let them catch you looking. They'll kill you just as dead."

Kotor and Morrowwind also has the ability to play female characters. Neither are a problem. In truth, it can change the game a little. Morrowwind, the NPC's change their attitude toward a female.

Interesting article. It's true; games are aimed towards males because they are believed to be the main demographic that buy the most games and game-related products. Who the hell cares about women anyway? It's not as if they buy enough computer games and products to warrant a more balanced gaming experience. It's all about money; if women purchased more games, then we would see the presence of scantily-clad male characters as well as female characters for the males.

Unfortunately, the shapely female form is thrown in to make money, and it is so obvious and laughably precitable that the companies fail miserably, and indeed, often only succeed in making me turn away from their products. All the evidence suggests that it works for the average gamer though. Let's take a recent example shall we? Ruby. She is the new mascot of ATI's X800 line of cards. Why a female Alias-like secret agent dressed in red leather? Why not a man in a suit aka James Bond? Because the people who buy the most cards are believed to be male.

Furthermore, we have the "famous booth-babes" *rolls eyes*, who are always present to "model" computer products in exhibitions like E3, and are invariably photographed. Here are three links to prove it 1, 2, 3 (number three is especially obvious; you guys will love it). It all comes down to money, and I do not like it one bit.

I'll leave you with a hi-res picture of Ruby. Will this sell X800 cards? I'll let you be the judge.

Not at all, Taw *rolls eyes*. Why do I have the sudden fear that people will begin to pay attention to this thread for more than just the discussion?
