The Power of Ignorance

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The Power of Ignorance

This idea is off of an old Red Dwarf I saw.

The Power of Ignorance:

The greater knowlege you have, the more pessimistic one is, where a complete doof is more ignorant and more naive and his brain is therefore more receptive.

So when you don't know enough, to know that you don't know enough, there is no fear holding you back. One could acheive things that people with more brains can't.

Anyone think that this is true? I think it has a hint of truth to it. I mean think of all the seemingly moron people have come with great ideas, or invented something really useful.

Maybe that's why it's always farmer rednecks and crazies that are always sought by UFOs...aliens realize us "rational" people couldn't handle the fact of aliens from another world.

My two cents, what about yours?

ignorance is bliss. You're happy if you don't know so long as you don't want to know. Take the Iraqi prisoner scandal for example. We were happy thinking that we were treating the iraqis decently. Now that this has come out though, we can't help but wonder what else is going on, and worry. However, happiness comes at a price. The happier we are the less we learn about the mistakes of our past, and those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. --- vh16

I would never go so far as to assume the actions of a few apply to the whole. It is ignorant to think otherwise.

Well, it all depends on what you do with that knowledge, right? If you're in the right frame of mind, then you can use that knowledge to make yourself happy!

Yeah, but knowledge is power, if you're ignorant, you won't know anything, and you won't have any power. I'd rather know everything than know nothing.

A lack of knowledge or education doesn't necessarily imply that the person is lacking in intelligence. Quite often it turns out that those with a lot of knowledge will be looking at problems from a very advanced perspective, whereas someone without an extensive education will look at a problem with a very straight-forward and practical line of thought. Sort of like the story that the Americans spent bucket loads of cash on inventing a space pen while the Russians used pencils.

rec, thats an urban legend

I think there is some truth in what you suggest, sylver, but only "some"

it's always been the case that people without formal knowledge and experience can sometimes see problems and solutions that the skilled have overlooked, but this is the exception rather than the rule. Intelligence and knowledge are not necessarily the same, I know a lot of stuff but I don't consider myself particularly intelligent at all. I've met many people who may not know a scrap of the what I know but who I consider to be far more intelligent than me.

As far as your example of "alien abduction" is concerned, I think the "victims" are just about intelligent enough to realise that this is a good way to get on tv or in the National Enquirer. Isn't it bizarre how aliens seem to prefer kidnapping people from trailer parks?

regarding the point mentoned re: current events, oh sS I never thought you were q so naive, unless you're being sarcastic and I haven't picked up on it?

I had this one experience: I'm giving english lessons to one psychologist, and she showed me two things: an awfull handwriting w/out any sense of a schizoid woman, ande her drawing. Points: the woman states she's contacted by aliens; she's considered insane; her drawing (performed with a biro on a regular A4 sheet) is AWESOME! Weird, but it's sth I've never seen before. i'll try to get a copy of it, scan it, and place it somwehere so you can see it. Point of information: she practically got no education, artistic or other. It's a long story, but even a commission of psychologists got puzzled (no, I don't believe mental patients know better).
This was a bit away from the topic. I think that people who know a lot, may be differentiated into two categories: those who think they know everything (or, if not, are afraid to show ignorance), and thus become stagnant and ignorant, and those who accept that they are ignorant in many spheres, and thus are willing to explore. Ah, what the heck, I'll finish this when I'm sober

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain

@Taw

I see your point, and I agree with your alien abduction trailer park comment 100%. Perhaps I just like the whole ignorance is power idea cause that means us "average intelligence" people have some sort of edge over the smarties
