Computer STILL not working! Part2 plz help

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Mmm, the PSU could be stuffed and/or set to the incorrect voltage, but I think that that is unlikely. Personally, I would be triple-checking every cable, and even try reversing some of the cable connections if possible. One thing that I have had happen is that the power and LED cables were actually damaged on one occasion, and I required new ones before my AMD K5-133 worked. Replacing ALL of the cables might be worth a try.

Like a lot of the previous posts have suggested, check to see if you put your cables in correctly or if they're damaged in any way.

On the other hand, if the fans are turning, and the power LED is on, then that means power is flowing into the board correctly. What exactly does not work? Is there no video? Does it not boot?

And as for the IDE cable orientation, there should be one square/hole that is filled in. On the mobo/IDE device, there should be a missing pin on the corresponding spot. Hope that helps.

Well, i checked the cable lots of times.

Some of the IDE cables dont even have that little nub that sticks out. But like Taw said, i just had to use the red stripe on the side. But still, both orientations dont work.

Ok, from my understanding, you dont need ANY ide cables connected to have the computer do a basic POST. In fact, all you should need is your mobo, cpu, and psu. And since the computer cant detect the other devices, it will beep. But mine doesnt even beep! And im pretty sure the cable for the speaker is inserted correctly.

Even if teh cable for the speaker is damanged, wont the computer still be able to boot up if i install enough of the barebones devices?? The thing is, it doesnt. So im very lost.

Basically, when i plug in the barebones stuff (mobo, psu, cpu, videocard, hd, floppy, ram) and i turn it on. I get no video. but the power led is on and the Hard drive has a light on the bottom of it which is on as well so the hd is getting power. 2 fans are spinning (cpu and psu) and thats it. Also the red light on the mobos Taw sent me are on. Also, most disturbing of all i get no beeps from the PC Speaker.

why don't you tell us.. what doesn't work.. instead of telling us what you've done so far?

IMHO you want to tear open your present power box thingy on the desktop.

and if you can go to the mall everyday and buy various parts for your comp, why not just get some new stuff and build a totally new one?

btw cost of a miracle is $1.11 sowee, coudlnt resist

EB, when you turn the power on, things all hooked up, does the floppy light and CD light come on momentary as looking for OS?

Y'know I would have thought that too EB but I had one of mine attempt a start up but cut the power almost immediately because of a loose IDE cable. Do your fans wind up when you hit the power? CPU and Vid card? Make sure those power attachments are home tight too, it's a pretty common mistake to not drive them home sometimes. I know this is pretty stupid but you can do some pretty stupid things when you're putting a PC together so here's a couple of things to double check, the CPU is tight in the slot right? Handle is pushed all the way down? Your RAM is in secure and in tight? Just go over everything EB, check everything from top to bottom for loose connections, I guarentee it'll be the most stupid little thing.

EB, the LED indicates power going into the board, so that's good.

i did send you a manual, didn't I? if not follow this linky (you'll need Acrobat Reader as it's .pdf format) and then follow this linky to the ABit support site.

btw this board struggles with certain vid cards because certain pci functions address the same areas of memory as these video cards, ATi's particularly. Have you tried changing vid-card? for booting just some pog standard AGP or PCI will do.

Mustie is q correct, you do need to make sure that everything is connected properly and the right way round. Myself i really would try a different power supply, maybe it was the power trashed your original mobo, in which case you might be trashing these

don't foget to properly isolate power when you're working on the machine's innards.

btw, the direction of the connector cables for the pw-s/p-led/hdd-led etc are NOT determined by which way round the writing goes but by polarity. Check your manual diagram if you aren't sure. The only one that doesn't matter is the spkr.

Yeah, like i said i checked everything over and over again. I refitted the cpu many times already and checked all the connections.

At the moment, i dont really have any other hardware to test with. But what i want to try to do sometime soon is take apart this Compaq and use its 110W power supply. See if that helps.

also kimk, i have no idea what your asking. If you read what i typed and understand computers, you would know what im trying to say. And also, i have no money at all right now. Alright? So stop asking me to buy stuff. When i have the money, ill buy parts or a whole new machine.

Yes, taw, i got the manual and i followed it. I used the manual for those cables for the speaker/lights/etc.

EB - I have had this problem on more than one occasion. The two most recent occurences might be of some help to you. About four years ago, I had the same problem that you did, including no beeps from the BIOS. It turned out that the graphics card was faulty, AND that the monitor cable had a bent pin. Those two things might be worth checking. As for the other incident, about two yeasrs ago, I had a simliar situation and it ended up being the RAM SIMMs, as they were not inserted properly, and even when they were, I discovered that they were faulty. Apart from that, I can again suggest trying a different PSU (if you haven't already), as that is still a possiblity. I'll think about it some more for you.
