This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I like witnessing the female mind at work. That was certainly a lengthy response. I'm pleased you enjoy our humor and now I'm not pondering the meaning of my supposedly having huge glasses. I hope you find time to visit during your studies, but I know the importance of doing well. There's no compelling reason why you HAVE TO come to TLR, though we'll all be glad if you do, when possible.

@sycho_warrior: i can understand about how you don't like being complimented in front of a group of people. its embarrasing, i can vouch for that, cos i used to be smarter than your average bear in the early years of my schooling (before i saw the world for what it really is) and i always got beaten up for being praised, and it turned me into almost a recluse. luckily i managed to beat the snot out of them. now im just apathetic.

however, i do like getting compliments, just not in a big group.
i just hope i can get this post in before its *clicked*

Well I just no there are 2 very dangerous things in the world. A hydrogen bomb that would explode if it's touched by the slightest(kids don't go near this). And an angry woman, that would tear off your head at the slightest bit of annoyance(men stay away from this).

We go for victory!

Who can fathom the female mind? I sure can't. Women can be strange sometimes, but that's why I love 'em.

@sw, now that you're back for the time being, maybe you can answer this, which came up earlier in the thread. What does "Ghmf" mean? Or is that suppose to be how you sound when you're annoyed?

Well uhm its a sound that you make when ur annoyed or sceptical etc or you just make it for the fun of it i guess lol

Post Fri May 07, 2004 11:38 pm

I can't make that sound, from me it sounds like a cross of a burp and a hiccup, it doesn't sound poignant in any way.

I know the sound. You know how some people snore with their mouths closed? Try that sound and combine it with "hmph."

@Esqy,

Dear Mr. Linguist. Help me out here. It is a soft "g" sort of a soft but raspy sound. I thought it is known as a glottal stop, the technique involved to make hard g and k sounds. Since Afrikaans is of Dutch heritage it would be those kinds of sounds you hear in Dutch as well.... I just don't know what the spellings in Dutch would be.

When you see a gh or kh combination in a word, the intent is to soften that glottal stop a bit so that it sounds more like a half attempt at making the sound itself.
