Italy is a great place to go. Besides all the great things to see and do, there's something appealing about the chaotic way Italians go about their lives Australia is also cool if that's within your budget range.

has that, er... ever actually HAPPENED?

Cuba's always good, but if you're looking for adventure and would like to keep the leech count to a minimum, try Australia. There's just so much to see there...

Go to Japan. That place is fun. Oh wait, I'm just saying that because I take karate . There is a town in Germany called Fredinbacksten(well I;m not really sure but it's something like that). Make sure you get reservations and bring 300$. There's a zeppelin there that you can ride. But the waiting list is a year long, so don't loose you reservation.

We go for victory!

I enjoyed going to Australia and seeing the great barrier reef, it was really fun.

ignore ff, he's never even been outside of Ashford it's too cold and wet to come here, unless you really want to (you won't like it)

Italy, brilliant suggestion, you should go there without a doubt, Rome, Florence, Venice in that order, the fill in with other places like Arezzo and Urbino .

Japan, another wonderful choice, I'd be going there myself if I hadn't foolishly trusted a certain other party with the arrangements. I think you should travel the whole length of Japan from the tip of Kyushu to the end of Hokkaido.

America, speaks for itself really. it's got everything. Telly's crap though

surprised no-one mentioned France, always a good destination for any young person wanting to see the world. Mexico and S. America would be good, but maybe not on your own seeing as you're a girl.

i started travelling when I was about 16 and really got the bug for it and used to spend almost all my holidays away, paying my way with bits of work as I moved around, and when I was a sailor I often used to wander off on leave on my own. The besy advice I can give you is, go and see the big sights but stay and work with local people and try to learn the languages, even if its just a few phrases.

I'd highly reccomend Switzerland. Truly a majestic contry. An incredible view I had once, on a cable car. I could see for miles around, and had an incredible view of the Matterhorn. Also, switzerland has great chocolates.

Meh, I quite enjoyed visiting the UK. Granted I was lucky that I got some superb weather while I was there but it was facinating for me to go to place with so much history when Australia has so little. Well so little european history anyway.

But if your into the great outdoors, you won't do much better than Australia. Just stay away from Surfers Paradise, that's more of a tourist hell and not really a representation of Australia at all. If you really want to see Aus, you'd want to go to Northern Territory or if your feeling adventurous, the north coast of Western Australia which is a really desolate but beautiful place.

I recommend Phrants too. And, really, outside of Paris, the people are not as snotty as what you may encounter in that town.

The statistics behind that "attitude" I think, speaks for itself. There are some 2 million people living in Paris.

Every year something between 10 to 12 million tourists visit it. Averaged out, that is something like 32,000 tourists walking around the place asking for directions and such in foreign languages every day. I think I can understand why they are a little testy in Paris.

Japan is a great pick. A little hard to get to and rather expensive when you do but there are ways to economize, provided that you are willing to go native on foods and stuff like that.

North American west coast. Start in Mexico on the Baja peninsula. Drive up the Coast Highway. Hit Ensenada(party town), Tijuana(shopping town), San Diego(beaches and beautiful city), LA (DisneyLand, Hollywood, etc.), Monterey (just beautiful coastline), San Fran(culture), the red woods of NorCal and Oregon(massive trees), Seattle(culture again), Canadian coast(never been but I've heard great things). If you love forests, beaches, surfing, sight seeing, an occasional party, hiking, rock climbing, etc., etc. Then this is a good trip to make. Only problem is it can get pretty expensive.
Alternate: Get an InterRail pass and tour Europe at whim. I did this and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Stay at campgrounds or youth hostels for cheap and eat bread and cheese/ drink wine and water. It's a definite money saver. (at least it was back in 86). In one month you can hit most of the places in Europe others have mentioned.

Australia ain't too bad, but you'll be paying more these days due to the increased value of the Aus. dollar.

I say Europe; especially if you are into history (like me).

japan ? i'm not gonna flame them but i'd pick korea over japan anytime of the week, partially due to patriotic reasons, partially due to korean foodstuffs and other stuff being far better than japan, IMHO.

sushi for example.. you got little pieces of cucumber and crap like that in it, they are half an inch in diameter, compared to the 1.5 inch diameter of the korean kimbab, filled with far better stuff. wasabi is just crap. too synthetic. concentrated essences everywhere.

mind, these are based on my experiences. and i do feel i have to flame up a little. they(japan) seriously are stingy about food and quantity and quality.

i'm not even gonna start on the other aspects of korea. tho i have to admit your hand language has to be pretty advanced. the english they know is like the korean you know. you may also be very insulted at the way they pronounce the english language.
