This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Early Space Fighters Wallpaper

Working on my short movie for school, and rigged this up. I'm using 3D Max, and I'm making a 15 minute max short movie as a culminating project for my senior year of high school. It's about WWIII. Anyways, this shows a flight of spacefighters, known as the XSF-31 Phoenix, enroute to take out a formation of satilites. I've had no lessons, and what I know about this program is from messing around and a few tutorials found online, so it aint the best, but tell me what you think. Thanks!

Dude, that's awesome! I like it alot. I wish I had the patience to go do something like that.

"If it's our time to die, it's our time. All I ask is that when it's our time, if we have to give these b******s our lives, WE GIVE 'EM HELL BEFORE WE DO!"

Very nice! I always find that teaching yourself is one of the more effective ways of learning, providing you've got the patience and fortitude to see it through. I'd love to see the finished product, so don't forget to post a link to the vid when your done.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that you like it.

I'm hoping to get it done by late May, but I don't know how I'd put it online. All I have is a free angelfire site, and I won't have nearly enough space.

I posted this on another forum, and someone said that the Earth looked too flat, so I increased the bump mapping. The person liked it, but I think it may have caused the Earth to look kinda "funky." Here's the update. What do you think?

ooh i like! im sure its something that bakedpotato or eraser wont mind putting up

On the Earth, I like the first one better. The shadows look too bold and
unrealistic in the second. Unless you diffused it with a contrast shader to
level out the shadows, that might work, it might even cover the Earth in a
more "atmospheric" look. Also, if that is suppose to be the Earth, there isn't
enough water showing. Continents are small in comparison to size of the
oceans.

I could swear I saw this on a 3dsmax showoff site. Did you rip it off?

Post Thu Apr 29, 2004 9:01 pm

I can say for sure that I did not rip it off. In fact, I have other renders that I've done using the same ship seen here. I even have a website about my project. It's found at www.angelfire.com/falcon/fredmeyer/index.html

Anyways, I'm not sure on how to apply the contrast filter on just the earth. All I've found is how to apply a contrast filter on the whole image, but it makes it look worse. Maybe I'll figure it out later when its not so close to my bed time.

Very nice. Where did you say you got those tutorials? Seriously, can you provide some links? I've been dabbling with Photoshop, etc lately, and some 3DSMax Tutorials would be great.
