not good...
we use a machine called a theodolite, they a used to measure distances
and bearings. These machines are very expensive, about US $20 000.
The surveyer I had set up the instrument, and me and the surveyer went down the road to find a good spot to put a reference mark in, I turned to look up the road and saw, almost in slow motion the tripod sway and slowly topple over.
So now its being sent up to auckland to (hopefully) be repaired. Fortunately the boss has had one broken himself so he understood. The thing is covered by insurance but seeing it fall over almost gave me a heart attack.
