OH NOOOO!!

Just opened Recovery CD, and guess what...it has no instalation files . It got some things that computer cant even open, anyway here are all the things:

BOOTCAT
BOOTSECT

both of these are BIN files, cant be oppened

In Tools folder there is:

GB_PROG - application file, says cant run in win32 when double clicked
GOBACK - MS-DOS Batch File, looks like system prompt but it closes the second I double click it(seems there is some text, cant read it as it closes right away)

Thats about it...there is really nothing else. Lol I think I am screwed

I think he means the WINDOWS cd that you get with your comp that has all the stuff on it. like Wordpad and the files that are needed

Post Tue May 04, 2004 5:01 pm

That one does not have it either . I just checked it...and nope. It can only install the stuff I allready got (stuff that came from normal instalation)

You must have a CD somewhere that has Works, etc on it. Otherwise, just borrow a copy of Office from someone.

if its not on the recovery disk, then the recovery disk is of no use to you. you must have it on some other disk somewhere. so leave the recovery disk alone, you've reinstalled XP successfully.

I dot have any other CDs with the PC...only things I got with it are:

Recovery CD
XP instalation disk
Norton Antivirus CD
Presario Learning more
Roxio Easy CD Creator

Thats all of them , no office or MS works CD

Pardent the intrution, but my OEM restore setup, has Recovery, OS disk, and 2 suplimental disks that has money/MS work/ ect on it, just not labled as that. Do you have any of those, or have you looked to see if it is one one of the other ones?

@Fd

There are OEM's though, who assume that the customer will never have the temerity to re-partition or re-format the HDD. These guys put a lot of the software in (if MS made) cab files in special directories. MS Works, usually when bundled for free, often ships that way. But the Restore CD should have included choices that would point to those CAB files.

I remember Leo mentioning error messages on his Restore CD. Maybe that's what this is about? Looking for and not finding the CABs for MS Works, etc.?

@Final

Only CDs I got are those from above post, also 2 empty ones as well (just normal empty 700mb disk) nothing else . I will be going to the store I got my PC from and see what they got to say about this...they should fix it...I did not pay 3 year warranty for nothing

Well at least computer runs smooth as hell without all those other programs

@indy

Ya, I was thinking the same thing...that recovery CD only backs up those programs than reinstales the PC. Right now it has nothing to back up

Post Wed May 05, 2004 10:18 am

Leon, that sounds like the ME machine I had 2 years ago. It had a small partition with all the cabs on it and the disk only drew from it, but had nothing on it. My revenge was to put XP on it. And it was and HP, that was another reason I swore off them too.

Well if the store won't help you then, as I said, borrow a copy of Office from someone. Easy.

Post Thu May 06, 2004 6:14 pm

If you thought about, though, how much more of a word processor than WordPad do most people need anyway? Of course, if you paid for Works/Word or whatever, then you should get it back on your system.

Post Thu May 06, 2004 7:42 pm

That really p*sses me off when stores don't supply copies of your software with the PC. They're quite happy to make you pay for a license for it, so they should be giving you a disk. It really just makes you want to punch someone in the guts.

Lol I cant live without problems

Here is the latest, the reinstal seems to have done something to my video card as FL does not work . It can start but all text looks like this. And ingame textures are way bad as well. The ships for most pard do not even appear, just invisible or plain white. I thought that the TNG modd had a problem so I diactivated it, still same thing. Also before starting FL said something about drive being old. So I got to my vid cards manifecturer site and download latest drives...and guess waht I cant instal them, they stop in middle of instalation
