Wierd teaching attempts

The other day the HM at my school got the entire 6th form to attend a special assembly. He started off by playing part of a documentary on the England rugby squad and how Clive Woodward trained them. After that the HM started to talk about "energizers" and "energy-sappers" and how it only takes a few energy sappers to bring everyone down. Then he somehow managed to equate A-levels as a team effort (WTF!?). No one was capable of taking any of it seriously and, to me, it vividly seemed like a scene out of Donnie Darko where the pupils are forced to take lessons on a motivational speaker's ideas on attitude.

So I was wondering, has anyone else had teachers who try to use wierd motivational techniques to try and help your education (or for that matter has this sort of wierd crap been forced on you at work)? And did it ever actually help you at all or just provide something to ridicule with your mates afterwards?

The fact that he is taking an intrest, is a good thing. Most teachers/Principals just do thier jobs, but nothing more. No motvation to learn, excel or anything. May not be a bad thing.

One of my teachers has taken it upon themself to attribute as many important points as possible to sex in the vague hope that we'll be more likely to remember it.

It's actually counter-productive because they do this in a very patronising way which annoys the hell out of everyone.

I went to a Cathloic boys school *rolls eyes*, and I had this teacher who was a member of the school's religious order called "Brother Francis". He used to yell at the students all of the time (it seemed to be his normal volume), but he also used to thwack people's desks with a one-metre ruler to emphasise points. He was a crazy old bastard .

one of my teachers, Fr. Simonstone, used to beat boys' rears with their own p.e. pumps (that's like trainers before there were trainers) which his lesson largely consisted of (was supposed to be French but he just used to beat us)

oddly enough a few years ago he finally got done for b*ggering young boys and is now in jail so that's alright then!

Why does that sound familiar, Taw? Religious orders in schools = a bad idea.

school = bad idea, least it was in my experience

My life just flashed before my eyes, and it was rather boring.

Taw, betcha a tenner he used to go and whack off after belting the lads.

Come on kids, keep it clean.

Today in some class (it all runs together, I think health) we were learning about different forms of communication, and the example was how noisy and disrespectful we were. Of course the teacher had sunburn from his eyes down so we were all laughing at him.

@Must, god only knows (literally?) what they used to get up to. Was a school run by priests/monks, part of a Missionary Order (missionary position jokes taken for granted) who firmly believed that the more you beat children and left them to freeze half-naked on a sports field for 3 half-days a week was beneficial to them. Not much Christian charity and virtue there, then? the sexual abuse was just the topping to their near-perfect day of physical and mental torture.

The good old days, eh Taw? That does not seem to be an uncommon view. Some of the Brothers at my school allegedly spent time alone together in locked rooms during the school camps (at least according to some of the students (and staff)). I'm sure that is was innocent (I guess), but it was certainly unusual and caused all sorts of rumours as I'm sure you can imagine. There were also rumours of physical abuse from one particular brother who left shortly afterwards, and even some rumours of sexual abuse. All in a day's work at Australian Catholic schools it would seem .
