The Hard Way

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The Hard Way

this is an article about the decline of computer gaming and just why consoles are starting to dominate the market:

If this becomes a console vs. console or a console vs. pc thread ill delete it.

I think another main reason consoles are winning the war against PCs is it's not seen as 'cool' to play a game such as splinter cell for example on a computer. But it's just fine to play the exact same game on a console, almost like it's socially acceptable if it's on a console but not on computer.

Interesting article. After my last upgrade (which turned into a $4000 orgy in my lust for new gear) I took a moment to ponder the enormity of money that I just lavished on beloved rig. I decided that next time the upgrade bells start ringing in my head I should seriously consider dishing out $300 for an Xbox and be done with it. The question is can I really give up PC games? The answer is most likely no. We are the ultimate powers in the gaming world, any console that outstrips us will only hold to crown for 3 months before we snatch it back from them.

The analogy that I always use is that every machine that we own is a prototype car, a racing vehicle if you will. They are bloody quick and can do 10 times as much a regular car but are 10 times as temperamental. The consoles (ie production cars) are slower, more refined and rarely have problems. Of course in this process, our prototype vehicle cost 5 - 10 times as much to produce and run. That is our price for serious peformance but we can always rest easy in our beds with the knowledge that no console will ever come close to stealing the mantel from us.

Is it worth the money we lavish on it? Probably not.
Can we stop ourselves from spending inordinate amounts of money and buy a console instead? Not a chance in hell.

I wouldnt give up the PC, ever really. Sure upgrade costs are through the ass but its worth it being able to play something and then playing it and looking at it and realizing. That your playing the best there is out there, plus we get dibs on all the great new technology and engines. I also own a console, PS2, and while I do have a fairly big library of games for it, it doesnt even rival that of my PC. Though sometimes, I do appreciate the simplicity of just flicking it on, sticking a CD in and playing it without having to worry about a thing. What I DO think is that technology is raging way too fast for its own good. First GeForce 4 was the best, what seems as only a few months later FX is out and now that new one is out and its outdated and theres a radeon slated to kill it later. I mean seriously these are margins of time between releases are so small you never are really sure one day its new and shiny next day its old and outdated. Frankly im sick of this video card ordeal, they should rest it a bit seriously. Im f***ing sick of buying a new video card every few months. And then its a big question mark if it will be compatible or work or if it needs to be patched and whatnot. But think of it this way, if PC's never become as "cool" as consoles are, at least many of the games on PC are ported to console and vice versa. So if the PC never hits the mainstream fan the consoles will always be our window to it. Since thats what consoles are, they are PC's that stay on the market longer so they dont have to be upgraded while developers roll out games for it.

PS: PC will always be here, think of it this way, they use PC's to make console games so haha!

It depends on what you want.

A console's only asset is that it can be taken somewhere and back without much hassle, and it doesn't need to be upgraded. However, console fans ( ESPECIALLY Xbox fans) will salivate over their console and damn all others. An example is that many PC gamers speculate that Halo was "stolen" by the Xbox when it was meant for the PC (It later returned to PC). When confronted by advanced PC games, like Half-Life 2 and Doom 3, they (generally) refuse to accept that their console is basically a dumbed-down computer. Halo is great (if linear in my opinion), but Xbox fans rave on about Halo 2, and how it is going to revoloutionize the industry, when it really is just a better graphics FPS.

How is that going to revoloutionize the industry ?
What am i ranting on about ?
I don't know, so ignore this post and read the next one .....

Damn straight Final! I'll never leave my PC! Try and make me! *Pulls out sword and starts slashing* .

Consoles may eventually replace PCs as gaming mediums, but not for a while.
