Stupid Question About Setting Up A Linky

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Stupid Question About Setting Up A Linky

I just realized that the reason why my attempts to link articles from the newspaper I read probably is due to the password protection that is on the site.

You don't have to pay for access to the online paper but to be able to read anything off the front page requires a User ID and PW.

How do I put up a linky that will incorporate that ID and PW and get you to the article?

You probably won't be able to do it if it's something that uses session cookies to indicate when you're logged in, but if when you log in you get a complex series of numbers/letters in the URL bar, that might be your login info so you could try linking to that. Just an idea

@DS

Thanks. But no. Tried that. Didn't work.

I'm pretty sure that there is no way around this.

I think someone told me it's possible to route the connection through another IP that the server knows has a password but I'm not entirely sure.

Indy, I know of no way that you can link to a password protected area without using a password...thats the whole point really or else one person could effectively give full access to people who haven't paid.

Your only alternative is to do a "Save as..." on the page, save it to your harddrive and upload it to your own webspace. Relatively simple thing to do if you have your own useable space.

Sorry matee thats all I could suggest.

@Everyone

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to continue to annoy everyone and copy and paste.

@Grom... That's the point though. It is for FREE. They just want you to register (my guess is to collect on the advertising fee)

yeah unfortunately a lot of my clients are asking for this sort of thing nowadays. Its exactly the same system that you would have with a paying secure site...just without the e-commerce system behind it. Same security though unfortunately. The only other alternative of course is to register the username "TLR" with the password "password" to a dummy email address. That way when you post your link you just post the user and pass along side it. Apart from that its copy and paste for you me'boy

EDIT: Nick was that a hint of sarcasm I detected?

Then that was one lucky guess
