Last Time on Deep Space, The Final Frontier....
(Bleeep) “Enter”. My number one entered and approached. I indicated for him to have a seat, turning the desktop panel towards him. “Commander, it looks like we may have a way to increase our energy reserves”. He looked at the screen, touching a button. “Hydrogen?, judging by the size of that cloud, it will be enough to last us for several weeks with a full crew.” He said. “My thinking exactly” I started, “we can use the collector shuttle to gather this, since getting the ship near to use the ram scoop is out of the question”. “I agree, but with out a pilot yet, may I suggest letting myself and Mr. Rilms take this mission?” he asked. “Make it so” I said, dismissing him.
On the way to the shuttle deck, Commander Esq met up with Lt. Rilms. “Sir, thank you for asking for me to go along” Mr, Rilms said. “Well, Mr. Rilms, you do have the experience needed and it is our first, Away, mission as well.” the first officer answered. The door slid back as they arrived at the main hanger deck on the rear of the saucer section. The Hanger controller, Mr. Stormtropper was at the controls monitoring as the collector shuttle was raised up to the flight deck.
After it was locked into place, he nodded toward the Commander, that they could proceed. He secured the control room and activated the beacon indicating that the outer door would be opening. After, the Commandeer contacted the controller that they were secure, he said that they were ready for departure. The force field snapped into place, and a warning alarm activated. The beacons on both sides of the bay door activated and flashed red. The door slid open in fifteen seconds. Mr. Rilms activated the controls, bringing life support on-lin, the shield, and propulsion to full ready. “Take us out, Mr. Rilms” The Commander said. With a touch of the controls, we began to journey, it always felt strange passing through the force field. “It strange, isn’t it Sir” Rilms said. “What’s that.” Esq responded. “Just sitting here, piloting a one hundred year old shuttle. I never was in anything over twenty five years.” he added.
And Now........
“Commander” Mr. Leonhart called back. “Yes Lieutenant” Locutus answered. “I rechecked my readings, but it looks like we have incoming communications from Starfleet, Sir” Leonhart responded. “How are they coded?” was the response. “Normal with the exception of one for the Captain and that’s code Eyes Only, but not priority, Sir.” leonhart spoke, his voice trembling. Communications from home. None had dared hope for anything like this for a few years. “Very well, send the normal ones through to the appropriate crew members and the captains message to his quarters” Locutus said and returned to the command chair. “Lieutenant, give me a systems status of all bridge systems and sub-systems” Locutus said. “Yes Sir” Leonhart replied, glad for something to keep his mind occupied till the end of his shift. He had seen a message with his name on it and wanted to get back to his quarters to read it.
“Mr. Rilms, take us to within ten meters of that pocket of gas there if you will” Esq said. “Aye, Sir.” Came the response. Forward momentum slowed and finally stopped. Esq touched the controls to begin the transportation process. They had three containers that held one hundred liters each of compressed gas. It would take a few trips to collect this pockets of gas. Esq also launched a small scanner beacon that used passive systems to cover a fifty meter range. It would monitor any movement towards their position.
Captains log, Star Date 0404.26.2020
We have managed to obtain enough hydrogen for fuel to last us five weeks if we were fully crewed, as is, it will last us three months. All primary systems are on-line now. Chief Chips has done an exceptional job. We have full life support, shields, force fields, impulse drive, warp drive, and weapons. I hope we have no use for those. The tractor beam and transporters are about ready. Hydroponics has the arboretum started. We will all need things like home to survive. Today, I opened the message from Starfleet. They knew we would need messages from family and friends now more than ever. All those we knew are dead. The new Admiral, Bargib, said he is the third one since this mission began. He would pass along all tech info and upgrades to us as they come in, and knows that it will take four point five years to get a reply. The crew who received messages have shared with those who did not. Almost like a family. We are, after all, on our own. Total crew count at this point is one hundred. Not enough to get under way. We will need all the crew to handle three shifts a day. We will, however, continue to explore the asteroids, scanning for minerals. Lt. Kimk has one half of a working star map complete. I look forward myself to getting back to exploring.
I arrived in Dr. sycho_warrior’s office. She informed me that all the current crews medical evaluation has gone well. The remainder should be out in another five days. The ships counselor has got settled in and I will be paying him a visit in the next day or so. The Doctor did ask for all data about Klingons be up-loaded to the medical computer. I aske if there was a problem, to which she replied “Nothing I can’t handle”. I let it go at that. So far, Lt. Taw has preformed well. Though I think she wants a bit more challenge. When we get the holodecks on-line, she can get her work out programs and feel a little more at home.
Ten-forward is busy tonight. At least thirty crew members. Some engaged in chess games, others listening to a quartet, a few, in the never ending poker game. The replicator is fully operational, so any food or drink is available to anyone. The rec deck will be opened in another few days. Something to do with the holographic program that creates courts, landscaping or what ever the plays, athletes want.
Star date 0404.26.2135
The final shuttle run of the hydrogen gathering is complete. We will be moving and scanning the asteroids for minerals for replicating a base with. The crew is looking forward to the day we can set up a planetary base. It will take time, scanning possible planets or planetoids for no life to interfere with. Even here, the prime directive is in effect.
(Bleeep) “Enter” responded Mr. Indy. He was not expecting a visit from the first officer. “May I come in” Esq asked. “Yes Sir” Indy responded, “What can I do for you, Sir”? “I want interview some of the crew for possible away missions, trying to learn a little more about everyone, so that when teams are assembled, their will be compatibility or at least no conflicts” Esq explained. His concern was because of having a Klingon security officer, there might be some conflict.
Lt. Kimk was in Stellar Cartography, looking at the stars. So many with out names or designations. The computer would assign them in time, but until then, they were his. This mission was one in a million for him. The discovery of new world, new life. Something he always wanted. He liked earth like environments, but being out among the stars, was his dream. Even his quarters had several pictures of nebula, nova’s, ect. that he had the computer replicate.
