Why do machines get given female names?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I heard a reference between a marriage and a hurricane something in the form of "at first its really wet and theres lots of sucking and blowing then afterwards you lose your house and your car" heheheheheh

"Sometimes I just stare at my computer screen and wonder what technology hath wrought. Other times I stare at it and think, those have GOT to be fake"

Maybe it's because the men have strong attachments to their machines, and it would seem to be a bit odd to be passionate about a machine called "Roscoe", rather than one called "Anna" .

look, it's just observation. I happen not to think of any machine as female, they're just machines; unlike females they're eminently fixable I refer to all machinery as "it" except Andrea, the beautiful android from ST:TOS

I work in IT, and I don't call any computers by female names. Still, a Dell "PowerEdge" server called "Eowyn" might work .

LOL! that's what my daughter called her PC when I said she had to give it a name.... Eowyn. My little boy called his Smeagol.

I always thought it was because men generally like to care and service their machines much like a woman. Personally I don't have any human affiliations with machines, they're there to do a job and god help them if they don't, cause i'll be trying to fix them whether I know what i'm doing or not.

Taw - So your kids have been corrupted by the One (namely the box office). *Shakes head* PLEASE tell me that they have actually read the books and not just jumped on the band wagon like the rest of the Philistines!

ff - *Rolls eyes* Just watch out for volcanoes and short men with hariy feet.

death is the last great adventure.

Well that's a relief, Taw. I have read LOTR, etc many, many times over the years. The first time was when I was about eight, and I turned out teréva (that's "fine" in Elvish ).

@Taw Tell your children to be more...err...creative with names. I can't tell you how many times I log onto multiplayer in one of my games without seeing something like legolas18764.
