Does Anyone in OT Listen to MP3s, CDs, etc. In Public Using

I've got a bone to pick:

I fully appreciate the courtesy shown by those who take the time use head/ear phones to listen to music as they go about their business in public.

BUT, if you are one of these good citizens, are you aware that others can hear the music too? I have no idea whether it is because the volume is set at maximum or because the skull acts as a sounding board but I can hear it too.... except that I cannot hear the entire musical effect, just the scratchy chuffs and such of the percussion instruments and the backbeat of the bass line or the occasional screaming squall of a particularly exuberant guitar riff.

It is by far the most annoying thing to have to deal with when someone with it stands next to you on the train bopping along to the music, oblivious to others and basically grating away on fragile morning commute nerves (namely mine) in the process.

While that tends to annoy, a far more offending technology is the walkie-talkie type cell phone. I used to think the height of irritation was achieved when I had to sit and listen to a one sided conversation as a **** next to me shouted into his cell phone. I was so wrong. The walkie-talkie affect of hearing both sides is far more annoying. Especially now that the use of certain expletives has become common fare. It's as though the person on the other end of the line has no clue he/she is speaking to an audience. Personally I think the things should be banned just for the sake of common societal decency.
In short I completely disagree that overly loud head phones are the most annoying thing to have to deal with. Cell phones are on a level all their own.

Edit= What the heck? Why would **** show up for the word I used. It starts with a "j" ends with a "k" and includes "e" and "r". Hardly a word to cause gasping.

LOL. I agree. Did you ever notice that the walkie-talkie set in particular seem incapable of understanding what the other is saying or responding coherently enough to be understood so that most of the conversation goes:

Walkie talker 1: *bleeemp* Say again?
W-t 2: *bleeemp* What?
W-t 1: *bleeemp* What?
W-t 2: *bleeemp*
W-t 1: *bleemp* Hold on a sec. I'm getting interference.
W-t 2: *bleemp* I said try check*&(*&( (*&(*& (*^%%**^*&^
W-t 1: *bleemp* What?
Etc.

Only if I want others to hear it. I can turn up real loud so you can hear it perfectly through my earphones but I normally have it quiet

got to agree, it IS pretty annoying when you're stood or sat next to someone with loud hissy headphones, esp on yer way to work.

those headpiece mobile phones are freaky, aren't they? I still think it looks like people are fast-paced nutters talking to themselves. Really weirded me out the first time I saw one. Bring on artificial telepathy!

I agree with Ss, I would rather hear a little from the head phones rather than it all from the speakers. Cars are worse in public, not only do you Hear the music, but you can feel it too.

I hate those people who drive around blasting rap. If they're gonna play music like that play something polite and decent.

I do this all the time. When going to/from school etc.

I use to have the music very low, to don't disturb others. I know myself this is annoying, but if people have a problem with it, they usually just lean over to me (when sitting at bus/train, of course) and ask me if i can put down the volume. I don't find this a problem.

@Tawakalna: I agree with you, it freaked me out the first time to. He was turned so i couldn't see the thing, i tough he was wierd, since he was also talking like "honey, should i buy some milk on the way home?". Later realised it was such a thing.

@Ss, well, i didn't live when people did it like that, so, no comment

I know exactly what you mean, I have this school girl who gets on the same bus as me, and has her earphones cranked so loud you can still hear a back beat from a 2 meter distance. It's not really the noise the bothers me, it's the visions I have of twisting her head of her neck that have me worried.
