Daylight Saving Time

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Daylight Saving Time

In the past 2 days I had quite a few references about this, but I still dont know what it is? Can anybody plz explain? Why are they having something like this?

IIRC it had something to do with farming and getting workers to start at set times while making the most of the daylight. Basically if the farmer had his workhands starting at 6am each day on the same time basis as it was in the winter, by the time the summer starts, they'll be missing out on a few hours of daylight. So they put the time forward by one hour so 6am comes an hour earlier each day. The result for most of us is long brighter evenings.

In Britain, during the summer we set our clocks 1 hour forward to BST (British Summer Time).

I think this is because... actually I have no idea why we do this. During the winter, we use GMT so all the little school kiddies don't get run over by manic drivers who can't see in the dark.

I can't see the point of putting the clocks forward in the summer though, the days are pretty long anyway. It might be so we get more light in the evenings, but I could be wrong.

Nowdays, people like to have Daylight Savings Time or Summer Time because it gives people more daylight AFTER the work day is ended. By starting the morning an hour earlier, it affords working people a chance to get home while the sun is up and to enjoy some of it. It also affords the kids more daytime to get home from school in daylight and have time to play, etc.

It DID originate to make the most of the daylight hours. I don't know about the farming thing only because framing used to be a simple "sun-up to sun-down" type job that really didn't have to depend on a clock.

And those who work in the US, hate the spring time change due to having to get up an hour earlier. Yawwwnnnn, no fun at all.

I was once told that to the earth's orbit does not allow for a proper 24-hour day every day of the year, and thus we add or subtract an hour so that we can "catch up", and keep the clocks accurate. It was however, originally based upon the 'ole farmers. I could be wrong though, as I was taught that many, many years ago, so don't quote me on it .
