Considering how rarely I get to go anywhere on holiday, I'd say Cornwall is great as long as you avoid the really popular beaches. In Cornwall you can relax go surfing, free diving, climbing cliffs, do some mountain biking or coastal walking.
Here's a little tip, try and find Pednvounder beach (near Logan's rock) someday. It's difficult to get to since there's a short section of cliffline to get down, and the beach is fairly popular with nudists but they stay on one side. The great thing about it is that the waves are chanelled between Logan's rock and a nearby headland, there's a sandbar slightly further out and this creates some absolutely huge waves (10 foot at the front in some cases) that no one really knows about because its so secluded and its on the south coast of Cornwall. There's a seal colony not too far away and you can often see their silhouettes against the biggest waves. The cliffs in the area are also excellent and once in a while you'll see a climber turn up with his crash mat to practice for a bit. The sand bar creates a lagoon at low tide and the little ones play there in the warmth for a long time too. The beach is also immaculately clean since it's literally round the corner from Porthcurno a blue flag award beach.

Cornwall is terrible. The beaches are some of the coldest in Europe, and the pollution's terrible. If I wanted to go to a beach I'd be in Cairns. (Austraila, near the Great Barrier Reef)

Scotland has some really nice sandy beaches, although the sea is flippin freezing all year round. We used to go sailing round the Scottish Islands up near Ullapool. Landing on small islands, massive beach bonfires/barbies, walking and more - damn fine holidays

That is another thing i would like to do, sail a tall ship - I looked into doing either a round the world or a cross atlantic racing one. It would cost me something like 9,000 pounds to do for about 2 months (was from UK to southern argentina i think it was), or 27,000 to go round the world. For that kind of money, i would buy my own boat and sail for years

*still dreams of being a pirate*

To tell the truth, I HATE vacations!
I hate weather, hot, cold or otherwise.
Another thing, all the *expletive deleted* people who always bumble around with no sense of direction.
I'll just stay put, thanx

Yay, Chips!
So, you want to come up here to me, in cold/warm Sweden? Yay, again.

My favourite holliday destination... well, i don't go on hollidays but i go on holidays. My favourite would be... Malta. Yes, the planet.

Geez, sorry Corsair but not all of us can swan off to the other side of the globe all the time. You've obviously been going to the wrong beaches at the wrong time of year. I've literally gone swimming with a wild seal before, watching it hunt fish among the rocks, it came within a foot of me, that's not so bad really is it?

@Recusant- were you smoking pot at the time?
And anyway, you don't have to Australia for a decnt beach. Just don't don't go anywhere North of France unless you bring an Eskimo suit

er....no I don't touch the stuff. Why the hell would I have been smoking pot?
Gray seals aren't that rare along the south coast of Cornwall. It happened to come up for breath and I saw it so I swum over to it.
I wear a "shorty" wetsuit to combat the cold, but its really not that bad unless you stay in the water for a long time. You can get them from about £30 these days.
Don't knock what you evidently haven't tried, you obviously stuck to the places that attracted huge crowds which will always bring mess and pollution with them.

There is the Majestic Highlands I would like to visit, because there is almost no sun, and just because of it's majesticness (sp?)

And there is the wastes of the Great North Pole at Night, Or the South Pole at the same Time of Day (which is Basicly six months Later)

We were sailing in Scotland when a mink whale surfaced next to us. I was only about 14 at the time, but couldn't help laughing my ass off, cause all i heard was this hysteric shreak from my mother "Kevin, there's a bloody submarine next to us, what do we do? it might sink us!". It was massive. Thats about the closest i have got to unusual natural wildlife, that and porpoises (like dolphins, but not), which really do swim off the bow.

I too, must visit Scotland one day. My clan used to live on Colonsay, so I should probably visit the ancestral highlands.

Schotland's to rainy, we get enough of that over here. Although I must say it was a rather dry and hot summer last time.

Put me on a beach at the mediterranian(sp?) with a nice cold beer and I'm happy.
