All Windows Maximized

How do you make all windows start maximized? At one point in my ownership of computer, i accidentally made my internet explorer window smaller size. So I tried to maximize it and it did, but every time i open IE or go to another page, it would reset back to the small size, so that i did is just stretched the window so that it looks like its maximized. But it sucks this way, really bad, it all looks like its not in the borders perfect and its annoying as hell. This has been going on a long time and i been trying to find out how to make it so its maximized all the time but it just wont stick.

Everytime I reformat I have this problem too. On the upper right of the window, I just hit hte maximise button and then use the X to close it. After the 5th or 6th time, it opens to max auto. Using XP but it works for Me too. Not aware of a particuler command to do this though.
