it definatly does depend on when and where you're lost.
if I'm lost at 3am on the "wrong side of the tracks", theres no way i'm gunna stop for anything, let alone to roll down my window and talk to anyone i see walking around out there at that hour
but if its a sunday afternoon, in a nice suburb somewhere, i'm not going to ask for directions either, unless i'm in a rush.
don't get me wrong though, i feel no shame in asking for directions...its really not a big deal, and i have virtually no ego whatsoever, so it doesnt bother me that much
