Duke and his Nukem

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Duke and his Nukem

Found this on the 3D realms forums.

Here is a cut and paste from DNF Developer George Broussard's post (13th March 04)

>>1.) How would you classify "development" at this point with DNF being the engine is basically done? Going fast? Steady?

Steady. Creating new stuff every day and putting it in the game. Constant, forward progress.

>>2.) How is the engine bug wise? Are you happy with the stability? Have there been alot of bugs? Easy to get rid of them?

There are very few rendering/core engine bugs. The recent past has seen spent just on optimizations and squeezeing every millisecond we can out of things.

>>3.) Have you named any of the weapons yet?

Some. Still working on some.

>>4.) What do you think of Far Cry's graphics? Doom 3's graphics?

Both are neato.

>>5.) Any decision or "leanings" regarding attending e3 2004 in may?

I don't think we care about E3 anymore and may never go again.

>>6.) Will the instructions be in color?

Probably. We like color manuals. But that's not something to be decided today.

>>7.) Any type of multiplayer up and running yet?

It has been in the past. We're focusing on single player at the moment and more efforts will be spent on mutliplayer in a bit.

>>8.) Is it safe to say we'll have a good variety of aliens and monsters?

Generic "yes".

>>9.) Could you give us a taste of DNF in one sentence please?

We'll leave that up to others to write.

So it seems this donkey is still in development. From the post it appears they are using a new engine all together, so let's see they've done it in the Quake 2 engine, the Unreal engine and now this one. If these guys aren't the biggest bunch of slack jawed money/time wasters I don't know who is. Does anyone else smell a more retched form of Daikatana coming on or is it just me?

Duke 3D was the cream of the crop. I haven't been interested in the series since. I wish it hadn't been the case, but the street levels were the best in Duke 3D, I never got into the new ones. i might try this, but I think they lost me.

Seems like games that take forever to get developed somehow end up really crappy. Daikatana was one example. Master of Orion III is another.

*crosses fingers* Buck the trend, please.

@Jim, what about Freelancer?

I stand corrected.

DN4's been in development for nearly the best part of the past ten years. It shouldn't take ten years to make a game. Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, Duke is dead to me.

Bah! They've been developing that for years. It's a total debacle. I for one, won't be buyig it. I wouldn't say no to a dodgy copy though!

Ah yes, Daikatana. I have never played it, but it has quite the reputation. Take note: that is NOT the way to develop a computer game!

Remeber the saying pre daikatana that "John Romero is going to make you his b*tch!". Well last report is that John Romero is now wollowing away in developer hell doing N-Gage ports. You gotta feel a little sorry for the guy, the crowing achievement of his life is going to be making the most dissapointing game of all time.

I might as well have shot myself in the foot for buying Daikatana. *BANG!* OUCH! Damn, that hurt. *Hops on one foot* I hate it when that happens.

Pah! Everyone knows that Duke Nukem 1 was the best
anyone else ever play that? I can still remember giggling as a kid at the funny little tricks you could do with health power-ups.

myself i liked Life's a Beach, Duke it out in DC, and Winter Wonderland (I lost that one so maybe I got the title wrong, the add-on where he's in NYC at Christmas and the pigcops are Santas)
