Eulogy for Worth Riley

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Eulogy for Worth Riley

MARCH 18, 2004 - 17:23 PST - PLEASE CLICK HERE AND ADD YOUR POST TO THE OFFICIAL MEMORIAL THREAD. THANK YOU

@ MODS, PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD NOW.

To Everyone.

This is a request for all those who would care to post to this thread to be sincere in their words and to understand and observe that there is serious intent in this thread to gather together thoughts and words of honor and respect for one among us who has fallen but who acquitted himself with true courage and indomitability of spirit to the end.

After a suitable time, this thread will close so that a memorial to Worth Riley may be put together by Locutus and others with far more skill than I have to do it.

To those who ordinarily add their profile signatures to their posts, I ask that they refrain from doing so in this thread.

Thank you.

@Nickless, I will be too, but only in the evenings I think, from about 9 PM

@Duriel, Yes I have a Picture of young Worth

@Indy, All Help is welcome, really.
Just tell me what you know or what ever you want to put in it

The Latter Goes for all, if anyone has any quotes on him or any last things to say about him, any remark, just send it to me by email or Post it in a seperate thread or this thread, I will see to it that it will get a place on The eulogy
Could be a remarkable moment you shared with him on The OT or something he said to you that just made your day, anything could be of use,

The Eulogy will go something like this (subject to change/suggestions)

---------------------------
Picture
---------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------
Date or Year of Birth/Date or Year of Death
-----------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------
Episcript
-----------------------------

---------------------------------------------------
Remarks by friends in the Form of Quotes
-
-
-
-
-
---------------------------------------------------

This is an alpha version as it were, it isn't final, also if there are any real poets and writers amongst you, could you give me a hand with the Episcript?? Because I myself am (unfortunately) not really much of a Poet.

From Mustang: Could I ask that this be the last thread created in Worth's memory. This will be the third thread, and I really do not want to have to lock one. So could any messages please be left in one of these threads. Thank you.

Worth "Warlord Bob" Riley was a person to make you laugh in his replies, inform you in his help, and to genuinely care to take the time to *talk* to you. He will be missed.

Post Fri Mar 12, 2004 7:23 pm

Worth Riley was a great person, he was always a cool head and would always put a smile on your face. He would take the time to help even the youngest of anyone here. We will all miss him very very much.

I only knew him as WLB. I knew he wasn't well, I feared it was pretty serious. But he never let it get in his way. I learned something by watching him. That you can have courage and that you can press on regardless. Thank you for the inspiration Worth.

Worth ... a word of value with a meaning deeply routed in this young man's soul and represented eloquently in his name. Friendly and full of humor, he lived his days with a quiet courage. He shared with us his thoughts which demonstrated for us his true worth. Worth Riley we valued your presence here, our lives have been enriched because of you. You are in my prayers.

Sir Spectre

Warlord Bob was a grand lad. He always made us smile and laugh with his posts. He was a light in the dark void that is the internet. Although we never met him in real life, he touched us all. All across the world, people are remembering him.

We can give him no greater gift then remberance.

Life: No one gets out alive.

As i feel the grivance of TLR and share in it, i cant help but think that maybe Bob is watching us from wherever he is, overcome with emotion himself as he sees us post all this. Had i known bob was in such a bad way, i would have flown to wherever he is to help him, as i am sure anyone here would have done.

As this world passes to another
And all that has gone repeats
we shall se the good times that passed.
and see all who have gone before return.

As we say goodbye to Worth, i would find it more fitting to see hime no as leaving, but going on a perpetual holiday, a holiday that we shall eventually join, and we will all be together.

Worth 'WB' Riely, relax in peace my friend

While I can't say as I knew him personally I think the massive response to his leaving is a real testament to his quality of character and his positive effect on those around him. I think everyone should be proud of having had such a person with us here.

Worth was unbelievably brave. We were all aware that he was sick, but whenever he mentioned his illness he made it sound like it would be gone in no time. So it came as a great shock to all of us when we heard that he had lost his fight with cancer. He is an example to us all.

Post Sat Mar 13, 2004 2:45 am

i had the privilage to meet him quite early.

If you are reading this, that is good As of this moment this forum is very dead. I however don't like that and wish to revive it. Soooo, if you come here, leave some chat or question or sumpn and I'll be checking frequently. Thanx

were the first words i heard from him, and thus, he revived the once long dead homeworld forum back at gametalk. he made my day back then, having someone to talk to about homeworld was really great. he was a very brave person and i'm very sad to see him go.

he fought a long and hard battle. his casualties numbered high, but he held on. but i don't believe that he will forever be gone, erased from existence, as he lives on, within our memories. he is gone only physically, not his soul.

during his time at TLR, he proved himself a normal, if not a better person among us. his taste of humour was very bright and brought innumberable smiles to me. he was an intelligent person, conducting arguments at standards matching some of the far older and more learned people in TLR.

it hurts to see him go. but i know we will forever remember him. farewell and godspeed, Worth 'Warlord Bob' Riley.

I think that it's an excellent tribute to Worth that so many people have posted in rememberence of him. Worth was a great guy, and I'm sorry to see him gone.

Post Sat Mar 13, 2004 4:13 am

I did know Worth, perhaps not as personally as some of the people here at TLR, but I always found him an incredible spirit. I remember being a little bit taken aback when I found out how young he really was. His posts were always so intelligent and well thought out, that I believed he must have been a man in his late 20's or early 30's. The one thing that I will remember Worth (or Bob as we better knew him) for, was his incredible ability for humour. As Charlie Chaplin once said "It takes an intelligent man to 'em cry, but a genuis to make 'em laugh", to think that we only scratched the surface of the depths of Worth's charector...I think it would have been a real pleasure to have met the man he never got to become.

So long Worth, we'll catch you in the next life, take care.

Post Sat Mar 13, 2004 4:43 am

I knew Worth quite well, his stength of character and his determination really shone through. He really was the bravest person that i have ever came across and probably always will be.

Post Sat Mar 13, 2004 5:12 am

Worth had the spirit you would want to see in everyone. He never complained and was always cheerful despite his illness. That's something to be proud of. So long Worth, fare well.

Fun, Strong, Interesting, Youthful, Spirited. These are but a few words that spring to mind when I think of Worth Riley. It is truly unfortunate that most of us never got to meet him in person, however meeting him would have only put a face to the personality that we all got to know and love here on TLR. In life Worth taught us strength of character, humility and hope. In death, he taught us the true meaning of community...fellowship, unity and identity. He has touched the hearts of people around the world and will continue to do so for a very long time. He will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace young Mr Riley. I hope that one day I will be fortunate enough to meet you face to face.
