Bomb Blasts Madrid

Yes, when we all had forgotten ETA and how dangerous they could be, they have repeated the bloody results of "Hipercor" back in the 80's, placing bombs in three different train stations in Madrid

130 dead people and more than 400 injured.

ETA denies these bomb blasts.

Jack Straw blames Bin laden

Otegui says that it is an islamic attack. Which is a desperate way to avoid losing votes.

Absurd and horrific.

My hearts to those who died, my shadow to any kin who are freed.

It seams that more and more bombings ar showing up world wide. I heard about this one minutes ago and may try to catch more on Foxnews later today. Its a shame....

Why is it that I always learn about terrorist attacks on TLR?
I hate terrorists, they are potentially the stupidist human beings on the face of the planet. How can you think that killing inoccent people en masse is going to ensure that things go your own way? It's quite possibly the dumbest theory ever concieved by man.

i suspect that a high proportion of these people are just sick and have no true belief in thier cause
basically just an excuse to kill and maim
as for the suicide variety well they imho are just weak minded individuals corrupted to the will of a person too scared to carry out thier own deeds
and yes i know all these organisations have some true believers in thier "cause"
but i bet they rarely take the risks !

I agree, how ignorant fools get talked into doing suicide bombs i never know. Don't they ever just think "hang on - if its such a noble and just cause - why the f*** are you still here - why don't you do it?".....................

Terrorists.........pah. IF they were caught, poeple would complain about their human rights, and the rights they have. Like i say about any crim of a serious intentional crime - they lost their rights when they showed such contempt for everyone elses.....

Must admit - as someone said, what part of them thinks slaughtering hundreds of innocents is going to make governements suddenly say "oh okay, you win"

Mind you - with the IRA - we knew what they wanted, what do al kieda want?
What are their reasons? Same for ETA whomever they are (never heard of them)

ETA want revolution in Spain AFAIK

AL'QAIEDA want the West dead

Lousy idiots those terrorists! It doesn't really matter who they are - such scum have neither nationality nor race. Darn, I could at least partially understand it if they blew up the parliament or sth, but simple people have nothing to do with politics, they just want to go on with their lives and don't give a damn for the ways the state is run. Stupid, stupid...

I get the feeling more and more that Al-Qaeda are behind this one. First no-one has accepted responsibility, ETA in the past has announced that they had planted a bomb. On top of that, this bombing had been meticulously planned for maximum casualties, which is what Al-Qaeda terrorists are trained to do. Thirdly, a van was found nearby with Islamic literature and detonators in the back of it (admittedly this sounds a bit sloppy for Al-Qaeda and the literature was books for teaching children about Islam). But the thing that's got my attention significantly, and maybe I'm reading into it too much, is that this has occured exactly 2½ years after September 11th.

More needless deaths.....

Latest reports are that it wasn't the Basque separatist ETA but some group in support of Al Qaeda and in follow-up to the killing of the Spanish military intelligence contingent in Iraq last month.

The Al Qaeda (Osama Bin Laden) want Saudi Arabia to be restored to a purely Wahhabbist - Islamic holy land, presumably a kingdom but it is not clear to me. Taw knows much more about these guys than I.... well at lest the Islamic stuff and all. This part of OBL's ambitions is directed against the Saudi royal family and hangers-on whom he blames for the slow contamination of and defiling of holy Arabia by allowing the West into the country, doing business with them and the like. The last straw was when the Saudis agreed to have US armed forces based in Saudi lands to launch PG 1 and who, afterward, stayed in Saudi for quite a long time.

This part I find very hypocritical or at least ironic as the Bin Laden family, as a whole, made its riches in the construction industry, a highly westernized area of enterprise involving a lot of financial wizardry, including the charging of interest, etc.

Also, however, the AQ also want to vanquish the pernicious anti-Islamic evil that is pitting the world against them, namely, the US and at this point any who are allied with the US in Iraq and Afghanistan although, the AQ tend to pick and choose. In Afghanistan, the effort was UN sanctioned so the AQ hasn't been quite so vocal against all of the UN as it has been against the US and the Coalition in Iraq.

This really is a terrible event.

I'm not completely sure on the details, but I have heard that ETA had something to do with a shipment of dynamite. Apparently, these latest explosions look to be like those caused by dynamite. All of this evidence points towards ETA being the guilty party.

However, given the fact, which was brought up earlier, that ETA usually give warnings, there is a major eliment of doubt about them being behind this latest event. Another point to remember is that ETA usually target local authorities and government officials. In other words, they don't go after the general public. If this event was caused by ETA, there has been a major change to their tactics.

PS - Don't ETA usually come into action during the holiday period, when Spain is full of tourists? I think they don't like the way Spain has become a major tourist attraction, and they do this to put people off from going there for a holiday. Correct me if I'm wrong.
