Controversial Video Games
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.
in an effort to get back ON topic:
@Mal: Get dressed.
@Taw: I know what you mean, 'toxic' video is better than porn but the imagery in she rips an average looking guy's head off to reveal some male model hunk underneath. I dont know about you but that scene really made me feel bad about myself.
@Indy: You swallow a goddamn dictionary or something?
@ssjgarretjax: Yeah, the town i live in and have always lived in has had no gun crime to my entire knowledge. The British police arent armed and unless your Tawakalna, the vast majority of the nation doesnt have a gun either. Now in the last few years gun crime in the country has gone up due to the increase in gang culture in many of our major cities which is indeed a shame.
I can understand having a gun for the "worst case scenario" of some maniac breaking into your house intent on harming people and can totally sympathise with this desire. The problem being though, if a nation is allowed to be armed, this increases the likelyhood that someone who DID break into your house has a gun is alot greater. So everyone gets a gun to protect themselves against everyone else with a gun? Wow.

Me again.
@Esq: the majority of melburnians wouldn't even know where to buy a gun. go Melb!
There is a problem in the industry, which is that it is not being seen as a legitimate way of telling a story. I admit, Doom had a very weak story, but was not just blow to bits violence. Deus Ex, System Shock 1&2, Max Payne (to a certain extent) have decent storylines. Deus Ex 1 especially. (i love that game). Anyway, to get back on track. The video game industry is just realising that games with good storylines are beginning to sell faster than those without. I know that some games are almost unnessisarily violent, (SoF2 anyone?) but if a movie was released based on SoF2, it would get a very mild outcry. The main problem that moral naysayers have against Video games is that its interactive. The player gets to choose whether the enemy lives or dies. (i must admit, majority of the LucasArts adventure games contained no death, and i applaud them for it. Go DOTT!!! ) This is probably why some, shall we say, "weaker" minds are adversly affected, because they see that they have a choice. and something inside them says: "wait i can choose here, why not choose outside?"
and then their world goes to hell.
There is a Jack Johnson song called "Cookie Jar" off his album On and On, which is about a kid who takes a gun and shoots his friend. The kid says hes too young, his father blames TV, and it goes downhill from there. The way i see it, whoever pulled the trigger is the one responsible. they made a choice, a concious or sometimes unconsious decision to be violent. nothing can change who we are, and we all have a certain amount of violent tendancies, most of us are able to control this violence, but every now and then, people come along who have a weker control over their violence, and become obsessed with it through video games, music, and movies. and in the end they snap, and usually get taken down.
i hate to preach, but thats my 2 cents.

Sheesh. Try to be craven and suck up to a Mod and what do you get?
@Viator: Fear not. I'm not much into these once was an innocent young thing now turned into a a slutty tease that your momma would abhor ... unless you're making loads of money for momma ... types. Granted, I happen to think that Jessica Simpson is, by far, the best looking of the bunch, but I am not quite so dim as to think that any of them are all that gifted as singers.

@Esq: Maybe you should change the title of the thread. Almost everything on this page has absolutely nothing to do with it, and there might be people missing out.
What was FL2 and is now ...............*suspense and drum roll* .................... FL: Fallen Universe!!!!

Lula's Sexy Empire
Narc
Beat Em and Eat Em
Panty Raider
F*ckQuest
Harvester
Vida
Riana Rouge
Hooligans:Storm over Europe
Joey Deacon's Speedway Challenge (Joey Deacon's a lifelong cripple who can hardly speak, hence the irony)
Simcopter (gays on the rooftops)
Chiller
Leisure Suit Larry (he's back, btw)
Lula 3d
MacPlaymate
3 Sisters Story
Cool Devices
Princess Maker
Thrill Kill
a Uk gaming mag ran a similar article a few weeks ago and I was amazed how many of them I'd played! Leisure Suit Larry <sigh> and I still have 3 Sisters around somewhere (hentai filth)
oh yeh maybe i should mention more obvious candidates, like Postal, Resident Evil, SoF, Rise of the Triads, even Doom got majorly slagged off and quoted as the cause of some loon's insane rampage across the schoolyard.
of course, there are other controversies. Does anyone remember the furore when it was discovered that the WTC terrorists had trained on MS Flight SIm, down to the last detail? and the subsequent furore when MS took the WTC towers out of Flight Sim?
To take the same theme even further, there was a hoax game out called 9/11 WTC Survivor, in which it was claimed you had to escape from the burning WTC at all costs, fps style. Another hoax game is Jesus Freakin, where JC comes back and takes Punisher-style revenge on jews, gays and commies for perverting his message. If you think that's f*kt, a game which actually does exist is called Ethnic Cleansing, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Even worse, there's Concentration Camp in which you play Nazis rounding up jews and throwing them in deathcamps for which you get points.
Now, what am i going to object to more? me little un playing a skanked copy of GTA:VC he's borrowed off his m8 from school, or one of the above? I think i can make my own decisions about what's controversial and dmaaging without the moral minority telling me what's right and wrong.
