EMP-G/E Contruction

Does anyone know a possible way to build an EMP generator/Emitter combination that generates a pulse ranged 3-5m and is smaller than a cray-2 supercomputer?
Im just trying to conduct an experiment for possible scientific applications.
Any ideas welcome, most parts will be readily availabe within 20 Km, i have a 240 AC mains power supply if that helps

If EMP's are basicly magnetic waves, which do disrupt electrically placed data, Disks, tapes excetera, I would use a round magnet material, circuler with open center. Placed in the center of a satilite dish for controled exposer, with a slide power control to increase at controled levels, with a step-up transformer to incease available power. If you want pulse, a momentary push button switch and a big enough open area to test. The rest basicly being the makeup of an electro magnet.

Just a guess.

just why exactly do you want to build an EMP emitter? planning on knocking out every IC in your district and generally causing havoc? make sure you shield your own PC first.

no, i just want to kill my watch

its just experimental, and the energy requirement to generate a 2-second burst over ten metres would be enourmous! let alone a two kilometre radius blast area!

By the way, how DO you EM shield an object?

and i have a testing ground, a open space with only grass for at least 100 metres, only populated by horses and the occasional wooden shelter.

And would a true EMP blast completely fry an IC or just kill it for a minute or two?

I've heard that the easiest way to generate an EMP wave is to blast a thermonuclear bomb - you could try that, especially if you don't really like your neighbohood

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain

what was it ? toy story 2? i forgot where.. but all these army guys try to kill these monster guys.. and they end up frizzled up when this power tower thingo falls down..

EMP is a tricky one, I could however if given the basics create a small handheld one from my NanoCores, much like the other Weapons against War I have like the Radiation Dissassembler and the metal and alloy converter

That movie was called Small Soldiers. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either.

My mind is full of useless information.

Well, depleted uranium casing works very well, as do other heavy metals, I imagine.

As for killing your watch, well this should work.

Have fun

You could generate an EMP pulse by detonating a high yield nuclear warhead in the upper atmosphere - but i'm guessing that's a little out of your budget range

An easier option would be a coil of wire around a small amount of explosive with as large a current as possible running through it. Detonate the explosive, which cancels the current very quickly, giving rise to a large electric field. In theory

Heavy elements such as Uranium, Americium and Lead are used in EM shielding.

OK
Basic Magnetics that I know of,

I think the best way you can achieve this is by building a sort of windmill with a magnet (Basicly a Dynamo of somesort) on each end and attach that to a powersupply you have, put it on a reverse polarity so it doesn't attract. and send the energy out through a dish or something similar, an iron rod would work.

Thats about all I know off, Its just a Theory (or a shot at it) and I am not even sure that it works, AT ALL
