The philidelphia experiment
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

This is the US military, they would keep it confidential for a time, then the cold war started and they didn't want to release it. Now they've probably lost it.
Their main reason for a coverup was probably that it cost the american taxpayer a lot of money.
This has been another SpamSightful post by Eh_Steve.

well heres what i remember from The History Channel:The Philidelphia Expermint was a project that used magnetic fields to literaly make the ship invisible. But when they started testing it....it vanished and didnt come back 3 months later, except only 2 soldiers were kind of alive...sadly,half of their bodies were sunk into the steel when they went inside, there were bloody skeletons. So they brought in the Radioactive Detector,it was off the chart. They ran out of the ship and it exploded. that what i remember
For every TIE Fighter you destroy,a thousand more take its place-Anonymous Imperial TIE Pilot

funny how the ship's log says that all this time it was on active service in the North Atlantic, doing convoy duty with hundreds of other ships, and all its movements are accounted for and witnessed. It made for an enjoyable if not particularly outstanding film (and 2 crud sequels) but I hope no-one seriously believes this cr*p. This one belongs with the Atlantis and aliens rubbish.
I put that in Indy's Atlantis post, or was it that Bermuda Triangle post, i can't remember which one?
yeh you were "off" for this one, grom. Here it is cut and pasted, cos i'm far too lazy to type it all out from scratch. Tell me what u fink, though!
In 1983 my ship was en route to Belize and we were about 500 nm NE of Nassau (edge of the Sargasso Sea, very calm night) and i was on late watch. Some breakers needed replacing in the comms cabinet so the duty lieu sent me off to stores to get some parts, as it was a fine night and we weren't on alert or anything and there were no radar contacts for miles except cargo ships, a few tankers and some civilian air trafiic high up, I didn't exactly rush. I was talking to one of the stores lads who'd nipped on deck for a fag, when he noticed this thing, some black shape on the horizon, thort it was a cloud at first, it came nearer very quickly and with no sound at all and passed straight over us, never changed direction and disappeared quite quickly. I could see the shape clearly outlined against the stars and the greyness of the clouds, but it had no lights that i could see and no markings. We immediately reported it to the duty officer who checked with both surface -to air radar ops and there was no contact on radar at all, nor had there been. Me and Nick Goldsworthy (the stores bloke) both indicated the track of the thing (heading due west ie towards the Florida coast) on the radar display and no-one but us had seen anything, apart from another chap who'd been looking out at the same time. later on the officers reported it up the line but nothing ever came of it. it went in the log as an unidentified aircraft and the radar was checked for malfunctions (it was fine) but we wrote it off as Yanks playing silly beggars with secret stuff.
what was it? a big fat flying delta wing, not bat like a B2, just a big slightly flattened delta. no sound, which was weird, i ve experienced supersonic planes going past and know they can go past and the sound reach you later, this was different, it never made any sound. the thing looked about the size of a 747 as its taking off and youre about 500ft below it, but really I dont know how high up it was or exactly how fast it was going no frame of reference. it was just fast.

woah! thats really bizarre! I think I too would have put that down as the yanks "playing silly beggars", but its still mighty odd. I think its the sound thing that fascinates me the most about it...I mean I spent a long time learning about sound and playing with methods to reduce or amplify it...but a completely soundless aircraft is really quite astonishing. Thats a great experience taw, must have had you and the boys talking for ages.
Do you ever wonder what becomes of these "experiments"? Every time you read or hear about people having first hand experiences with experimental aircraft/ufos etc the craft in question always seems "almost complete". You only occasionally get the "well i saw it shoot across the sky and then crash behind a hill" sort of stories...so what happens to these airplanes? Are they being used and we just don't know about it? Are they being saved up for an enormous war that may never happen? Or are they just scrapped and stripped for their technology? Who knows.
