CD-RW question

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

CD-RW question

Okay, I have a Dell 2350 that I got in June of this year. It came with a Samsung CD-R/RW SW 238F drive and it wont open. I contacted Dell and Samsung and their "Award Winning service and support" only helps if it won't read or write and mine still works... it just wont eject. Can any of you help me?

I assume you have already right-clicked its icon in my computer and selected eject.

Bearing that in mind, take your PC's cover off and unplug your CD/RW drive. Then plug it back in again, you may have to check all its wires in case one of them became detached.

Beyond that, I really don't know.

Yeah, I just called my uncle who works with computers and he said that, as I'm still under warranty, I should call Dell during business hours and contact them then. I have to do it during business hours as I was pressed for cash but that sucks 'cause class ends and I get home at 4.

Try the manual eject system. It's the small hole in the faceplate. Uee a paper clip or something to push in firmly, and the tray should come out. I have had that problem, and once you have manually opened it and closed it, it can sometimes fix the problem.

Are you getting power to it, is the light on?
Is the drive being recognized by your PC, can you see it in "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer"?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then as Esquilax said your only real option is to jam a pin or paper clip in the hole in the face plate to pop it open.

If you answered no, your drive is either naffed or there is no power going to it. So in that instance, i'd wait for Dell. I'm pretty sure if you even pop the lid on their cases you void the warranty. However, if your like me and can't help yourself, shut the pc down, pop the hood and check the power cable is secure at the back of the CD-RW.

I totally agree with esq and mustang...stick a paperclip into the hole at the front, it works a treat with all cd-roms. You may have an obstruction and/or the cd has got stuck inside...with the tray open you should be able to dislodge whatever the problem is.

I only know this because my niece has a habit of jamming small objects into my cd rom

yay! it's the paperclip gang! isn't it funny how when you actually need a paperclip for this task (like I do every day cos i forget to take the cd out then switch the pc off and put it into storage) there's never one around?

course now with Zip drives, the holes in the back, so you have to open up the case.

I used the paperclip thing but now it wont read, or open the slot or anything. I can manually open it but no lights turn on and nothing shows up on the screen when I go to run or my computer. There is still a buzzing sound but it won't read or anything. This is really annoying me.

sounds to me like the power cable's loose on the back of the cd-rw. Quickest solution is whip off the side of the case and give it a little push back into place...but be careful that there aren't any wax tips on the case screws (show that you have had the side off and therefore have broken your warranty), manufacturers can be gits like that sometimes.

@Eh_Steve I would wait till you talk to the service reps. I did not with an old HP and voided the wareenty even though the CD-Rom was bad. If under warrenty, they can if nessisary, replace it and not cost you the $65 it cost me to replace it. Compact is so much better, they even tell you how to fix, replace an item

HP and Compaq are the same people, fd. And they're both cr*p.

If the computer is still under warranty, then of course have HP/Compaq check it out. Playing with it yourself can void the warranty. Otherwise, as suggested, triple check the cables are in, and also make sure that there are no bent or missing pins. They can cause BIG problems, but still give the CD-RW the appearance of functionality.
