Riddles

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Riddles

Anyone want to try to guess the two riddles in my Signature? Also, if you have a riddle, feel free to post it here for me and others to solve.

The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place.

At a fork in the road between two cities, you see 2 people. One always tells the truth, and comes from the city of Angles. The other person always lies and comes from the city of Demons. They both look exactly the same. You must choose one of the persons, and ask him one and only one question (no compound questions either, such as "is this shirt red and which way to safety?" ). What question could you ask to find out which path leads to the city of safety?

The first one: Death?

Post Tue Feb 17, 2004 12:32 am

try this...

Three men checked into a hotel room for which they paid $30. The next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged. She gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men. On the way to their room the bellhop decided to keep $2 for himself, and give each of the three men one dollar. The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This plus the $2 the bellhop kept makes a total of $29. What happened to the other dollar?

I think its really easy, but its still a great problem.

It's a naff problem gromit and you should be spanked severly for asking it.
Mathematical trickery at it's best and a right bastard to answer but i'll give it a go.

You cannot add what the bellhop took, you can only subtract it. So dividing up the 30 dollars:

The hotel has $25, ($30 - $25 = $5)
The 3 men have one dollar each, or $3 total ($5 - $3 = $2)
and the bellhop has $2 ($2 - $2 = $0)

So there is no missing dollar.

i thouight we had that before.. ? i was spending quite some time figuring out just what you guys were confused about.

Post Tue Feb 17, 2004 4:43 am

Life: No one gets out alive.

yes yes I know...its an old problem...its just maths...its difficult to explain...its not original...

...but its still better than the **** at the top of this page

ok I'll shut up now.

@ Cronos's 2nd riddle:

The answer is:

I would tell the one that always lies to take me to his town. Then he has to take me to the city of safety, as he can't take me to his town, as he wouldn't be lying

I'm a genius. Thankyou.

But you don't know which one is which. But, I guess it'll work no matter who you talk to.

Life: No one gets out alive.

no, I think that Cronos formulated it wrong. I've heard it before. Its supposed to be that you meet the bad guy at the junktion, and you have one question that you can ask him.

Got one: what happens when an irrestible force meets an immovable object/?

I'm making record time!
If only I had someplace to be...

*sigh*

1st riddle:
the letter "E"
Edit: Crap, RILMS got it, i didnt spot it

2nd Riddle:
You'd ask one (doesnt matter which) "If i asked the other, which way would he say is the safe way?" then go the other way to the way you were told in your answer. The truthful guy would tell you that the other would give you the wrong way, so go the other way to THAT, adn the lyer would tell you that the truthful guy would tell you the RIGHT way, but he's a lyer, so he would tell you the wrong way ANYWAY. either way, go the opposite way to whichever way you're told.

Grom's riddle:
its not THAT steeped in maths, its just the direction your putting the $2 of the bellhop's. basically, the $27 the guys paid out, 25 to the hotel and 2 to the bellhop. the error is in the way grom describes the situation. from 27, the 3 dollars missing are in the guy's pockets.
