Well, it is true that the idea of celebrating V-Day, M-Day and F-Day are said to be for the modern day household that is too much on the go and such but that's what the marketers wanted you to think. Hallmark Cards had a lot to do with all of these days becoming such notable dates, especially for the women.
The other motive is purely mercantile. It gets people into the stores to spend money on things that they otherwise would have foregone as being too frivolous for themselves.

Only if every day being valentines day means what Locutus said back on the first page. Now you made me say "Everyday" and skip to the last song on the CD.
