Indy old son, I have actually finished my five years of studying, and we didn't have modems at University. We had nice gigabit connections which were used by all users across all campuses. As I work for one of the two Universities I attended, I can still use this amazingly fast connection at will. At home though, I still have the old modem. It does what I want it to do, and I have no complaints (

). I'll have to go for cable when my connection lapses in October.

Microsoft was under a huge virus attack and slowed down but didn't crash. If you go through their server, that could be your explanation. At least, I Think the timing might be about right.

Esq, cable is very affordable now. Telstra recently had a price restructure, so now im paying $70 a month for unlimited use.

Mustang - Thanks, cable IS getting much cheaper. I actually had a subscription to APC, and then detailed many good plans. I am actually cosidering this one after my account lapses. What do you guys think?

I might check out Optus, but I don't remember seeing prices like that when I was researching options in September last year. Must be a new thing. Also, cable could be cheaper in your state (SA?).
