Griffon and the deep sky objects - Griffs telescope thread
Anyway, then I finally started to look for DEEP SKY OBJECTS seriously (not just swing the scope around the sky) for the first time, previously I had been looking at planets and moons and such..
Anyway I looked at the Eta Carinae nebula..that was cool, but no colour like in Hubbles telescope pics just a bright cloud of gas and dust, from a supernova I think. Then I looked at the Omega Centauri star cluster....that was amazing! So many little stars in a ball! And then I looked at NGC253, or the Silver Coin galaxy, now that was really cool, I never new you could see galaxies! Well yes I did but I didn't beleive them And it wasn't just a point of light either, you could see the nucleus and the spiral arms like the milky way...
Half way through I heard a rustling in the bushes and found two Ring tailed possums playing there....that was cool but it wasn't a deep sky object!
Finally, when I came to resume, as I was peering in the door to my computer and its planetarium program, which was in red mode to save my eyes, my brother walked in, shut it down, and loaded up Medal of Honour....so seeing as my eyes were stuffed and I didn't have the planitarium to help me find stuff, I had to come in.
Although this is irrelevent that night I dreamt I was in WWII, but in nato outfits and fighting muslims.....wierd.
Anyway for those of you who like statistics I own a
6 inch (aperture, Esq, no "natural aperture" jokes) celestron newtonian reflector, with 20mm and 9mm eyepeices..
Can't wait till March so I can see M31 (andromeda galaxy)...you Norths have it till then..
