A New Threat to Freelancer? or a new beginning for Modders?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Yeah, combat isn't the best. I often set out to capture a certain ship, kill it a few times, die a few times, retry a few times 'cause I took damage (repairs will really cost ya here) and decide the loser isn't worth my time since he'll never surrender.

Another thing is misiles. I launched a fast misile at a small stationary target like 3 km away. I waited an apropriate time for an impact and was instead rewarded by a small light moving back and foreth near the target. The misile kept missing and going back for another pass! Aparently the things never run out of fuel and I think they've followed me to other systems but I can't be shure. Some ships can outrun them but if you stop and wait eventualy it will come and kill you anyway

Another station building method (for the more patient I might add) is to find a place where your product is in demand (ex: a system with 10-15 stations and one solar plant will need more energy) and det up shop with a higher than average selling price. Than you have one of your transporters sell a load at the first place willing to pay your inflated prices (thay can be set to do this automaticly). Makes more money, but slower.

This can be good as it takes longer till you have to re-supply the station (can also be automatic, but mine aren't. can't afford it)

@Neo-Kuja - I apologize if I offended you (or anybody else!). Sombody else said that first mind you and it sounded awful good so I borrowed it. Mustang really put it in detail up there but each game (X2 and FL) have thier respective merrits and I enjoy them both. No hard feelings

Man... X2... I can see how some people love it... well, in truth no I can't. The whole trade thing is boring as hell to me... may as well "play" w/ a calculator and do some multiplication... it's dull as... no, it's the MOST dull thing in the galaxy. Sue me... I wanted a broad-scoped space sim with *gasp* a good flight engine... so much for that. I WAS gonna suffer through the trade bs for the sake of commanding a fleet, but all things considered, I don't see that happening now.

can you make yourself invincible like FL PerfOptions Hack?

Post Thu Feb 05, 2004 8:44 am

there is no god-mode although you could argue that flying a destroyer makes you pretty invincible.

Combat is the main gripe of many. Collisions do happen far too frequently as it appears that the AI doesn't take into account the fact that you are flying towards it (or at least seems that way!). Many folks argue that it takes 2 to ram and they do have a point. If you slow down to speed close to that of your target, the collisions become far less frequent.

Hopefully Egosoft will do something about it, but I have some doubts.

That's what's so great! If you realls s*ck not even a destroyer will save you Most of the AI ships have wide turning radii. If your closing at 300m(or km, dunno)/s there isn't much they can do. You can increce your "rudder" effectiveness to avoid colisions

More for X2 players than prospective buyers:
I'm starting to like the combat more actualy. Positioning relative to enemy turrets, when to turn around and make annother pass, freightscanners, it takes some getting used to to be shure.

*sigh* I'm sick of these threads....I addressed all the issues in my thread but it got locked because I spammed "happy x2mass" *sigh*

There is only one thing I will say here,
And that is when you approach combat stop thinking about Freelancer and/or Freespace! Combat here isn't about lining little ships up and raking them with bullets....its about...heres a scene that happened to me as an example:
I had two Argon Titan destroyers, and four of the Paranid Corvettes, and an Argon Carrier with alot of Argon Nova's and Paranid Persues's (I think) Anyway I went to attack the Khaak in one of the unkown sectors, and what do you know I found a khaak carrier and destroyer and some clusters...Anyway the fight that proceeded was awesome (I was in a nova myself, commanding the big ships around) The Destroyer was using its big guns to kill the other big ships, and smaller turrets shooting off the clusters....carrier was just lumbering around, the fighters were buzzing around everywhere, and the corvettes were doing massive straight bombing runs on the big ships....my FPS was like.......5...but thats just because I have a sh!t computer...anyway the combat there was semi FPS, semi RTS, and semi watching a massive fight scene in a movie....really cool.
