Monkey Magic

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Monkey Magic

Does anyone remember this great cult classic? It is a true classic; it has dodgy voice-overs, choreographed fighting sequences, and campy music. Yep, MM has it all! Seriously, it was a great program, and I was wondering whether anyone else used to watch it. By the way, it is now out on DVD! That would seem to indicate its popularity.

..DvDs bought by me. I fookin' luv Monkey and so do me wife and kids. I used to watch it every Friday after tea when i was a kid and we've seen some cartoon versions of it on ZeeTV and TV Asia but it was great when C4 brought it back to the UK. We taped the first few episodes then found it was on DvD so I started collecting them.

My name is Tripitaca, Monkey.
ah.. forgive me for saying so...master, but.. you're a girl!
I'm not! I'ma boy!
No you're not!
Yes I am, I'm a priest!
oh, alright if you say so, but you look like a girl to me..

I'm sure the voice-over artists made a lot of it up.

I'm curious to see what this Monkey Magic is, sounds rather humourous.

If this is the one I'm thinking of, it was on TV with chimps dressed up as characters with voice overs. Short skits/shows each and were halerious.

Oh! Is it the late night program that first started out spoofing movies using chimps?! Like Titanic and Mission Impossible. I think it was on TNT or USA networks here in the US.

no its a japanese series based on a chinese legend, of the King of the Monkeys and his war with heaven, and his punishment from Buddha to accompany a priest to India in order to recover the Holy Scriptures of Buddha. it's hilarious, i give it the highest recommendation!

here, try this Monkey linky, which should tell you what you need to know...

"In the world before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when it's feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time, and the pure essences of Heaven all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation, and it became magically fertile. That first egg was named "Thought". Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha said "With our thoughts, we make the world". Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it came a stone monkey...The nature of Monkey was... irrepressible!!"

(say that intro with suitable silly exaggerated japanese accent and you're on your way to Monkeymania!)

oh i remember, it was on bbc a while ago,
late at night, yea it was really quite funny
it was about this guy with a stick, and this
other guy wanted the stick, to give to his
screaming little daughter, and the monkey
killed his friend, i think?

like the new sig?

Post Sat Jan 31, 2004 10:11 am

like the new sig?

No. nVidia kicks ass. ATi doesn't. Period. (no, not that kind of period, but if i was a female, I wouldn't be able to convine you that it isn't that kind)

Careful what you wish... You just might get it.

Post Sat Jan 31, 2004 12:36 pm

..and you posted that in Esquilax's thread too, Chet. Incoming! He's even more of an ATi fanboy than me!

Post Sat Jan 31, 2004 2:12 pm

nVidia!?!? *Shakes head* Another poor soul blinded by Capitalist propaganda . Alright, I'll bite Chet; why do you like nV?

Taw - I resent that! I am NOT an ATI "fanboy"! I prefer ATI, and I distrust nV after their "optimisations" (although ATI were also guilty), but if they released a fantasstic card, I would consider puchasing it. I am not biased enough to be unable to appreciate the good qualities of nV cards such as "C for Graphics". It doesn't matter that no-one is using it...

Well, I guess only Taw and I know about MM. Let's go off-topic then. Damn, we already did! That was quick!

Oh man Im so relieved to find out Tripitaka is really a girl. I used to have to question my sexuality everytime she/he/whatever came on screen. So what's the deal was she supposed to be a boy?

Post Sat Jan 31, 2004 9:32 pm

@finalday, *shudders* that Monkey site was scary!

Mustang - I'm not sure why they chose an actress, however I assume it was because she had "the look". You know, niave, contemplative, young, chaste, etc.

Post Sun Feb 01, 2004 1:54 am

..sexually ambiguous, cr*p at fighting, high voice, something for Pigsy to grope when he's drunk, always getting captured by demons and bandits, yeh there were lots of reasons for Tripitaka to be a girl!

I thought it was very funny the way the dubbers used to put in references to T being a chick. There was also lots of other sexual innuendo and little in-jokes that I loved to try to spot.
