yorkie puds and roasters
Say what?

I know yorkie puds = yorkshire pudding. Roasters? As in potatos?

Actually, I like your table Taw. Very much the sort of food that sticks to the ribs.

Do you try new things? I think you'd find Cajun cooking to be a refreshing departure from what you've had before. I.e., Fried turkey (whole) is of Cajun origin. And it's not just about "sucking dem bugs" (crawfish).

@Esq, I have seen mentioned several times, but do not know what it is, so. What is ginger beer?

It is a non-alcoholic beverage made with yeast, ginger, and sugar. After the ingredients have been mixed and left for a few weeks (similarly to normal beer), the end product is a lightly carbonated soft drink-like beverage. It's great stuff! That is of course, the way that proper ginger beer is made. You can also get ginger beer that is just carbonated water and flavouring/colours at supermarkets, but it is not as good. You should try it, it is very refereshing.

@Esq:

So the yeast causes the carbonation in the drink? Why doesn't it also cause alcohol as a by product of that fermentation?

ok guys time to fess up! who's the best cook in your house, and who does most of the cooking?

me: in my house I do by far the bulk of the cooking, because my wife can't cook! she's complete fank. can't even boil rice or roast a chicken. i do 95%, because she can just about manage toast. She can'tr even brew a decent cuppa. still, i didn't marry her for her cooking

basically if I want something edible that doesnt look like a plate of sick, i have to do it myself. the first meal she ever cooked for me aftre we'd been seeing each other for a few weeks, consisted of burnt but still frozen Findus mini-kievs, pappadums, and cous-cous...

I'm the head cook. I do all the roasting, braising, boiling, etc., etc.
The wife bakes things. Breads, mainly.

Indy - That is true, and I'm not 100% sure, however I don't think that it is laid down long enough for alcohol to be produced. It is probably left for a very specific time, and bottled before it becomes alcoholic. It's one of things I wonder about also.

Usualy Mom, often Dad. I just make messes most of the time and my sister cooks under orders from the parents only. Once in a great while she and I get all inspired and make somthing nice.

Post Wed Feb 04, 2004 6:00 pm

my Mom could cook very good meals, but my Dad was the experimenter. He rubbed off on me. He made a cheese cake with 3 blocks of creemcheese in it and it would cost about $30 to make years ago and take all day, but you could make yourself sick wanting to eat it all.
