Whoo hoo! I have made my first capture! A pirate "Baemon" (?). However, couldn't figure out how to sell it or the disco I took it with. Yes, this is only my 3rd ship . Now you see why I had trouble with Orinocos and Pirate ships before. They killed me too easaly and I couldn't scratch them in the little disco. Anyhoo, here are my questions...

-The Baemon is damaged. How do I repair it?
-It is also shield-less. I had to give it 2 1mw shields from my disco. Where can I get a nice 25mw shield?
-How do I sell ships?
-How do I transfer cargo between ships? I've done it before, but it won't work with the Baemon (that is, I don't have the option)
-I have a police licence, but it doesn't pay me for my pirate kills!

...and why does the blasted salvage insurance have to be one time use
...and yes wolf, everybody should get this game! But it really can give your system a work out!

First- Mustang, the best and only worthwhile factory to start with is a Solar Power Plant in Kingdoms end, or lucky planets, or somewhere else I forget.

WLB- you need to direct them to a shipyard or dock. You can only buy, sell, and repair ships at a shipyard or dock. There is one in Argon Prime, and one in Argon Prime. There is also a pirate base in Ore Belt. To get it to the shipyard you have to select it from "my property" or press R I think, then access command console from the menu and you can do it from there.

25 MW sheilds are mainly found in Split space, in 25 MW sheild factories. (There are 5 main "house" races, Split, Paranid, Teladi, Argon and Boron) then Khaak, pirates, Xenos and UFO's.
But to get friendly with Split so you can dock with their stations you need to kill a few pirates in their space (yes a few is enough unlike FL)

To transfer between ships you need to have them both docked at the station, then select the other ship through "my property" (or R I think it is) then get to the main menu, it should be there.
OR you could by the cargo tranfer....thing, which lets you remotely transfer cargo from space...over short distances.

Dunno about the police licence, are you killing police in the same space (argon, boron, etc) that you bought it? I'll check it out.

here is an x2 map

Ahh thought I'd ditched the box, anyway here you go.

Minimum spec: 800Mhz CPU / 128Mb RAM / 32Mb Vid Card
Reccommended: 1300Mhz CPU / 256Mb RAM / 64Mb Vid Card
Optimum: 1800Mhz CPU / 512Mb RAM / 128Mb Vid Card

This is actually the first game i've bought where having a DX9 compatible card is an advantage, the game looks stunning on my machine. Though I can't turn on shadows without an FPS deathblow.

Ok, I figured out the licence thing. You have to be suficiently close to an Argon instalation for it to "count". Either that or it has to be Kraak(sp?).

Man those split run a tight ship! I flew all through thier territory from north to south (the territory east of Argon) and not one pirate . That at a 188 crawl too. But I did find one sector who's description makes it a likely place and there is a pirate base on da map in thier sector. Missed it on the way down. That map is really nice btw! Thanks a bunch

All in all today I captured 3 ships and made a lot of trade runs... and a hefty repair charge. I have yet to sell the last one but when I do it ought to buy me a solar plant Not shure where to put it yet but I'll hop in the old disco and take a look around. With it's speed I plan to keep it (disco) forever. Tote it around in my corvette

Griff - The other argon shipyard (well, wharf actualy) is in cloudbase east.

well, when looking where to place an SPP try to find a place that has a demand of Energy cells with in 1 jump of the SPP, and a place to buy Crystals somethings that the SPP needs to run on. You can either have one ship assigned to it shipping crystals to it, and let the NPC buy cells off you, or you can assign 2 ships and have one buying and one selling.....or more. As a tip you may like to use a personell transport instead of a freighter as they can carry quite a bit and are much faster. Boron ships are nice.

I recommend you play through the turorial/simulator missions to do with factories first.

Post Fri Jan 30, 2004 6:36 pm

@Wolf - An abreviation for "Discoverer"; the ultra fast scout ship they give you at the beginning of the game. IMO it's useless except for it's speed. I use it to haul shields out from the place where you get them to the ships I capture. Or for scouting (imagine that)

@Griff - You beat me! Yeah, that factory tutorial is usefull. I think I'll run through it again too. I figured I'd pick a system with a crystal fab and for transport the Mercury is upgradeable too like 170 sumpn speed and 800 cargo if I remember right. That for much cheaper than a new ship. My question is this... crystals are about 100 times as expensive as an energy cell. So to make a profit you need to make a bunch of energy cells for each crystal... so the crystals would only rarely need to be replentished... so you DON't have to be colse to a crystal fab! Must think on this more...

Behold my thought process

yes but energy cells take up less cargo room than crystals.....I think

Post Fri Jan 30, 2004 7:25 pm

All the same, 100 crystals has to produce over 10000 energy cells. In a beefed up tp you could transport in one trip enough crystals to last the spp a looong time. Only question is, how much can the spp hold?

Hmm. Mercury upgrades to 1500 cargo, spp holds like 186 crystals. I captured all sorts of things today! However, I got trapped in a station by those wretched alien ships like Mustang . I escaped in the disco and eventualy got the other ships out when the aliens weren't looking so all is well . When they get to thier respective shipyards I shall be able to buy my plant!

But, try as I might, I can't get the orinocos to surrender to me

You'd have to use the comm to do that,
Remember when Contacting someone in a station, like say a trader, it has a different option in the bottom reading, Surrender or sth similar, use that when that Arse has no shields and his hull is drained to a little above 40% I think it will be successfull...

Since you guys are talking about X2.. I am thinking about getting it when it comes out here in EU wednesday. The only possible problems are my system specs. Can anyone give me an opinion or two based on experience?

I want to play X2 on this:

Laptop
AMD XP 2000+ Mobile
512mb DDR RAM
ATI IGP320M 128mb (similar to a 9000 I think, but not sure)
Running Omega 3.10 overclocking catalyst drivers and DX 9.x

I was told that my processor will kill me... and my graphics card is NOT supported or tweaked at all for X2.

I can run FreeLancer at 1024x768, everything highest at about hmm 25-35 fps
Other games run faster though, like Empires which looks groovy at 1024 and bump mapping turned on.

I was told though that X2 blows on ATi cards.. is it true? are there fixes?
Is it really not a problem?

I suggest you post on the forums at www.egosoft.com the issue has been raised there alot and there are plenty of people who can help you.

@Loc - I've never gone after anyone except pirates (but today I might hit a transport and see what happens!) and they just tell you to "go fast away" on the comm and hang up. The Orinoco ships are powerfull (compared to my Baeomon)so maby they think they can win even after they have no shield and 10% hull left .

Questions...
-There are bunches of things that don't seem to have a hotkey. Fighter drones for example. How do you use those?
-How do you pick up cargo containers dropped by dying ships?
