i am registered for bresnan online, but when i first open my browser, i get this:

on the first screen if i try to go to a page, the same thing pops up

How very mature, Wolf. You got a problem with a mod, EMAIL him! you're here long enough to know that. Your other thread got hijacked, apparently. No more talk of this subject - settle it through email. You got a legit topic in this thread, more substance than in your previous thread, so stick to it. Can anyone help him?

Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

Arrghh someone is questioning my authori-tie!
If you must know Aod's thread had a lot more substance and a description of his new hardware. Yours was basically "woke up, hooked up router, yaay", not exactly a riveting read is it? If you want to avoid the padlock, add substance.

Ok back on topic.

poor Wolfy, wot a rotten start to your week, fonk puter and getting a b*llocking off FF and Mustie. Join the club!

Wolfy you really are a total twonk. You know by now you just cant say" me thingys not working" and suddenly expect the right answer to fall out of the sky. Now as it is I have a pretty good idea of wots wrong but before we get there, you need to tell us the following

1/ make and model of router please
2/ what sort of intenet connection you have, DSL or cable. if its DSL does it operate on a dial-up basis?
3/ hows your router connected to the b'band modem? yes I know is the ports on the back, which one?
4/ have you installed any networking components at all? W98 will not virtually auto-detect the connection like XP does, you need to tell it.
5/ what if any configurations you have in your tcp/ip and dns settings?
6/ whats the IP address you've been assigned by the ISP? (Bresnan)

does this mean currently that you dont have access to email? I'd prefer you to discuss this with me and your other TLR online support staff via email as I'm trying to put a brake on this forum turning into a support centre which is jolly boring at the end of the day.

answerein number 4-- so how can i "tell" it to detect it
i have DSL and it does not have a connecting basis

im hoping 4 another windows program...one that isnt as buggy as XP

put in the WAN or Uplink port for starters.

then we'll move onto the next bit.

Post Tue Jan 27, 2004 6:58 am

wan = wide area network.

Post Tue Jan 27, 2004 12:54 pm

thank you ff for that invaluable contribution.

ok Wolfingel, you run the ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router, you then start at the highest numbered port and run an ethernet cable from there to your first PC, then the next port run another cable to your next PC and so on (until you run out of ports if you need that many)

once done that you have to log into your router from your primary PC and configure it there to accept the range of IP addresses your going to use, including the one from your ISP. Mail me the details and I'll tell you how to do it, it's either browser based or telnet depending on what make and model of router it is.

after that you need to configure Windows networking. don't worry I'll tell you how to do that as well. you'll need tp provide the ISPs domain, presumably bresnan.com but you'll have to confirm it.

dont worry Uncle Taw will send you some pictures of what to do, in the e-mail, with step-by-step Wolfy-proof instructions.

thanks for the help
but my dad ended up fixing it
appreciate it

but i have another question
my computer (win 98) is connected to the router by a wireless card, so do TV's and other electronics interfere?
