Computer Use Policies
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Damn! Please ignore my above post. The ginger beer tasting at my local chapter is the highlight of my week!
Don't worry Taw, I doubt that Grom will adopt PGP. It's too much trouble, especially when you aren't familiar with it, and I doubt that his admins would take kindly to "secret" emails. Many admins are really paranoid about people using PGP I've observed. In any case, this raises a larger question; Grom, did you sign a form allowing your employer to obtain and monitor your personal communications? If not, then I would argue that you might have a case because they are invading your privacy. I don't know what the laws are like over in England, however I am under the impression that permission must be obtained before any personal information can be collected and used. Why would those admins be monitoring people's email? Sounds like you have a nice, friendly, and supportive environment at work Grom!

PGP would be too much hassle, thanks for the advice though. My company has a history of "pushing people out"...ie. they find out information secretly and then concoct reasons to get rid of people. I don't know how they have managed to get away without a court case yet.
I didn't even sign a contract never mind a privacy clause....this company works completely above the law, they think they can do anything they want and treat people like **** as much as they want, and get away with it.
Without sounding too dramatic, they've buggered themselves with me - I won't take them to court, they're not worth my time, but as soon as I leave I will be happily shopping them in to every government agency I can get the address for. These people need to be taught a lesson.

it has crossed my mind...but I'm doing the old history clearing thing so hopefully that won't happen.
Tell ya what though, they know how to make you paranoid - I left my seat for 5 minutes to have a fag and when I got back I found the boss sat in my chair. You ask him what he's up to and you get "oh nothing, just routine". Yeah whatever.

It might work SpaceNut, however many companies use policies to stop users from accessing "advanced" features such as screensavers and desktop settings. Admin types are like that. Believe me, I know . Just logging out or "locking" the computer eg. through Novell, would also secure a PC from the average user.
Another possibility of avoiding a problem with the admins cost a little money. I have had to do it myself. I had to get my own computer to enjoy it. Work just got too impractical. This is not meant to be sacastical, but its easyer than a confrontation about non-work activities on the work computer and satifies the addiction to computer games and gives you your daily dose of TLR too. I was able to get a VERY inexpensive one and upgrade it myself to make it game playable. It works for me and the boss is happy too. I know there are situations that may not allow this, sorry.

Hey don't apologise, its a good idea....I just hope I'm not at this place for that long! I need to get out now. I've been job hunting for almost a year now and its getting me down...there is sod all in Kent, its too close to london...yet I'm an hour and half away from london on the train so its difficult for me to commute there. I NEED A GODDAMN JOB!!! I'm now bordering on desperate...I've even been looking at getting out of web design just to get out of this company. Thats about as serious as it gets with me, I struggled for years trying to find something that i both loved and could do well...I found it in web design...and I've loved my job for 6 years now...but this company is sooooo bad I am seriously thinking about jacking it all in and applying for the first job advert I see in the window of the job centre.
I know if I do though, I'll **** up my opportunities in life...its such a difficult position to be in.
