Faster Than Light Travel. Possible?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Faster Than Light Travel. Possible?

after reading some interesting posts on the real-life use of trade lanes., i decided to see how much some of you people know. So... Faster than light travel.
Possible?
Acheivable?
A load of shyte?
all theories welcome.

My Belief? if certain 'physically impossible' technologies were invented, yes.

The debate about this is a long one which we have been through before. From reading statements and thoerys on NASA related sites it is not possible at this time but could be in the distant future

as a physics student it always disturbed me how sci-fi shows were goin faster than light without going back in time. which as now led to my brain turning to goo.
maybe i should rephrase the question.
-:IF:- if it were possible, how would it be done? ive heard theories from wormholes to singularities. the one i heard with singularities is a good one.

What you would need is the ability to control a quantum singularity, or a micro-black hole. now, using this you 'skip' to different dimensions, and emerging ahead of yourself (if travelling in a straight line(and we are)). So what you are doing is just skipping ofver distance, so really not travelling faster than the velocity of light, by beating the speed of light by a long shot.

and if im wrong...

Not yet. discussion closed.

On the third or 4th post you say discussion closed Nickles isn't that a mite early
Sure it's isn't possible now but will it be possible ina a million years?

Post Mon Jan 19, 2004 7:57 am

no - light speed is generally accepted as the absolute fastest anything can travel - be it electrons, or photons etc etc. It is a universal contstant that many things are measured by, and due to laws of physics, itsn't it impossible to exceed this speed? Mind you - technically the faster you travel towards light speed, the more time slows downd, so theorectically travelling across the universe may take 100million years or something - but to the person at light speed it will be an hour or two. Course, this is speculation - as is my post, cause i aint read anything on this topic for about 10 years or so, so i might be totally out of date with current thinking

Post Mon Jan 19, 2004 12:05 pm

I'd say he's more of a smeg then a spong. But more a spong then a twonk.

Edit: Damn spelling.
